Saturn code port-able?
I have the source of a Saturn release (=game) of a now defunct company. I'm pretty sure the code is in C. The actual engine used in
this game could be something of interest to build new projects with.
So, the question is, is it port-able and how much work would it be?

If its C, porting is probably possible. It might require special Saturn-libraries which might be a bit worse to get over though. Also, Im not certain if its legal to use these libs, since they are property of Sega.
However, don't take my word for it. Better wait for someone who actually knows and not only guesses.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

I'll see what I can do. I paid a good amount of money for it, that's all. So you probably can see my problem to spread it. I thought I'd ask first if its portable at all.
Some part of the code would do as well, right? For now. If it's worthless, its worthless but I won't spread it. If it's portable I will release it as a gift to the scene. (yes that does make sense when you think about it)
Oh and the game is a 3D action game.

I took a look at the source. It certainly looks like the nearly all the source for the game. There are a handful of files that are completely empty. That isn't good.
It is portable? Well, I guess anything is possible if you put enough work into it. All the graphics and sound routines would have to be rewritten for the DC. You'd have to closely analyze the Saturn specific functions and come up with DC counterparts. This would also probably involve converting the game data (textures, samples, etc) to formats the DC and KOS like to work with.
It looks like probably all the code that dictates the logic for the game is there and that should always be portable.
I think some other coders should take a look too. I'm not up for any large project right now. I'm just too lazy.

I am getting the idea that this isn't legal as well, especially seeing as how the original poster won't post what the game is or where he got the sourcecode. Just that he "paid a lot of money" for it.Quzar wrote:I love how nobody has stepped in to say how illegal this probably is.

You should at least let the parties who are given the source know the circumstances behind it.SeGaFrEaK NL wrote:Well..probably because if it's done right, it isn't. As for the other things..lets not get into that. Yet.
I know that if I was given the opportunity to work with the source, I'd stay far away from it until I knew all of the circumstances behind it.

There's no need in getting people (and that's anyone except for Scherzo for now) involved in stuff they shouldn't be involved with in the first place. It would only raise more questions and mumbo jumbo.Doofus wrote:I am getting the idea that this isn't legal as well, especially seeing as how the original poster won't post what the game is or where he got the sourcecode.
