Four men have tried to con a Lincs man out of ?500 for the sale of one duster.
The elderly man was at home in the Riverside area of Grantham when four men called and said he should buy a duster - for the sum of ?170.
On saying he did not have the money he was taken to his bank and told to withdraw ?500 for the men but staff became suspicious and intervened.
It is thought the gang were involved in three incidents where elderly people have been targeted.
The two other incidents involved elderly women in Great Gonerby and in Sudbrooke.
The police are warning people to be on the look-out for the gang - and to ask for identification of anyone coming into their homes.
