Emulators for Xbox.
Hey all,
I'm really curious about emulation for the xbox, and I haven't really been paying attention to that scene at all. What I would like to know is, what sortof emulators are out, how do they run, and why is there not a single site that can act as a hub for all the xbox emu news? (sortof like this site).
Are only private libraries used, so all the emus are 'illegal'?
All I can find on google is pages that haven't been updated since 2002... nothing too recent at all. There was a promising N64 emu out there then... is n64 emulation now possible on xbox?
Thanks for the input.

http://www.xbox-scene.com has always been the first place I've gone to for Xbox related crap. There's constantly updated news on their main page. If your xbox has a Dashboard that has news feeds that also tells you about the newest releases.
the xbox-scene forums aren't bad either. I've found out quite a few things from there.
I'm pretty sure all emulators are illegal because they use the official XB SDK.
I have 2 copies of Surreal64. An older version that plays pretty well most games I've tried (about 20) to varying degrees of success. Surreal64 XXXbeta that I also have has improved some games, but broken others. I'm not sure if there's been another release yet.
Most emulators I've tried have ran pretty well. I've got gba, n64, nes, snes, genesis, and one more but I've forgotten. Most games ran pretty good on those systems (keeping in mind what I said about the N64).
iirc the PSX emulator has been updated since the horribly out of date one that I downloaded nearly a year ago, I have no idea how that improved anything though.
I say homebrew such as XBMediaCentre makes modding worthwhile. Speaking of which, I need to update that now

Theres 1 emu for it thats not been done with the Xdk, but I cant remember what it is, I figure its the ease of use that makes most authors use it. Xbins is ideal for news of releases as well as the above mentioned xbox-scene of course & any news filters into the big sticky of non dc emu & homebrew normally within a few hours.
As said most of the emu's are great, well ok all the ones I've used have been, Surreal64 xxx like the official Surreal is still a bit early so its not 100% to the standard of n64 emus for the pc yet but its going to get there. MameoX now has virtual memory support for the big games so thats every metal slug that mame supports (to pick some well known ones) of course the first 2 fit into the memory on it anyway, think x does as well
XBMC is as said fantastic & runs just about everything I've thrown at it, even .ogm though I need to update to a newer one as well, my versions from last december

xbox is a 1.1Luriden wrote:XBMC is cool, though it would be 99.9% cooler if my Xbox could read CDR and not just CDRW. I have so much crap burned on CDRs it's not even funny.
And while we're on the subject, have any of you upgraded your hard drive? If so, to what kind and how big?
I got a 80 gig maxtor 72000 rpm
I also put a pc dvd drive in so my box will read EVERYTHING
(had to mod the drive to read xbox games)
Antec 80mm fan to replace stock fan
and Larger heatsink on GPU

Thanks! Didn't know it required all that, though... I'll probably stick with what I have.Georgie wrote:http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/samsung-616t.php
