Finally managed to see Kung Fu Hustle.
Not only is it better than Shaolin Soccer, not only is it better than anything I've seen this year, it is probably one of the funniest comedies ever.
I've said it. Kung Fu Hustle is a top-notch, grade-A film through and through.
Directing: brilliant. Chow knows where to throw focus and how to keep it interesting. He also knows how to make his actors shine.
Writing: excellent. The story moves along, and the dialog even when not being abolutely funny, is still fresh.
Acting: great. As a director, Chow knows that the best comedy is done seriously. Never try to be funny/goofy in a comedy, let the seriousness of the characters underline the absurdity of the story.
That's all I can say right now.
Kung Fu Hustle: One of toastman's top 5 movies of all time.
Stephen Chow is a genius

greay, if you have netflix thay have just about every single chow movie available with subtitles. All the movies he has written and directed, and some he just acted in. I checked on netflix with IMDB in one window and netflix in the other while the checked the movie names in netflix.greay wrote:I'm hoping to see it again, maybe this weekend. I want to see if I can track down some of his earlier movies. Preferably w/subtitles, as I don't speak Cantonese or Mandarin.toastman wrote:Go now. I'm going to have to see it again.
