PC emu for DC?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

PC emu for DC?

Post by Jason Hart Maivia »

Is there an emulator that lets you play translated pc dating sims for the Dreacmast, like True Love?

I've always wanted to play it at home on my Dreamcast because I don't own a computer.

Thank you for your time.

I think there was... but I never really paid attention if there was...

And how would you burn the emulator without a PC?

Ya know, this sort of thing has always intrigued me: Could you make an individual game emulator for a PC game whose source code hasn't been released?? If it was possiblt, it would certainly be a fantastic thing to try. The problem would be that it probably couldn't be used for anything other than really old games, like adventure games, simple RPGs.

Still, if someone could somehow do it, it would be one of the coolest things seen on the DC.

Do you think any of the dating sims are playable on the Dreamcast?

Maybe not the brand spakin' new ones, but some of the other ones floating around everywhere?

I don't have a computer. I may have to ask someone to help me with it and I'll pay her/him.

I believe it was bhole, but its compatibility is way low and it will not emulate what you want (i.e..... ... ...dating... sims....)

I ported a simple dos emulator called bhole, plays something like 8 games.

Individual game emulators would be possible, but i doubt anyone here wants to recreate a game's engine from scratch.

A DOS emulator, eh?? Did you ever try to expand on it?? I know you're pretty high up there in programming prowess.

The name of the game is Mark. So MilkDC is sort of a Japanese pun.

I think MilkDC works with a number of dating sims from that same company, actually.

They're all in Japanese, though, so it may not be very interesting to the original poster. If he wanted Japanese dating sims, the Dreamcast already has plenty of those.

Speaking of the Sierra interpretters (there's two: SarienDC and FreeSCI), I suppose the Liesure Suit Larry games could be considered dating sims. Sort of.

It would be easier to just buy an old computer that could run the programs. I'm sure you could get one that runs that stuff for $100. It would be cool if the DC could do it, but the likelyhood that it will happen, or at least happen any time soon is very low.

If the dreamcast was x86 based it could have been as easy as running dc-linux with wine on top, which would allow you to run many bishoujo/dating sim games (albeit with minor/major niggles with most of them). However running wine on xbox-linux is quite feasable if you are willing to buy an xbox and get your hour hands dirty with linux.

My grandmother used to have a saying which is an appropriate reply to the first part of your comment: If I had wheels I'd be a bicycle.

An x86 emu would need Windows DLLs to run Win32 programs on the Dreamcast.
ReactOS-DC anyone?

I also have a small x86 emu I'm writing which will allow me to run 16-bit programs in 64-bit mode (for a custom OS)
