"REminiscence" -Dreamcast port
REminiscence is a rewrite of the engine used in the game Flashback from Delphine Software. This program is designed as a cross-platform replacement for the original executable and uses the SDL library. Original version by Gregory Montoir, cyx@users.sourceforge.net - http://membres.lycos.fr/cyxdown/reminiscence/
can be downloaded from my site http://storm-studios.net/GPF/
Enjoy

cool, yeah it wasn't that easy anyway
yeah here is the original Todo file
TODO
- save/load state
- cutscenes (partly done)
- sound (partly done)
- smarter rendering code (ie. dirty blocks...) (partly done)
- continue/abort screen (rely on cutscene player)
- enum Piege flags
- music
- split code into more classes
* Collision: Game
* Piege: Game
* Game: Menu, Collision, Piege, SystemStub, Resource, Video
But as soon as the original as updated, the changes shouldnt be that difficult to port in.

Troy could answer this more definitely than I can since he did the port, but generally speaking resolutions greater than 320x240 don't work well on the Dreamcast when you're using SDL. 640x480 will run, but people (including me) have found that their games run too slowly.Clessy wrote:Any chance for a hi reso version?

The original screen for FlashBack is 256X224, im not sure if the scaling will work on the dreamcast keyboard or not. Alt + and Alt - change the video scaler.OneThirty8 wrote:Troy could answer this more definitely than I can since he did the port, but generally speaking resolutions greater than 320x240 don't work well on the Dreamcast when you're using SDL. 640x480 will run, but people (including me) have found that their games run too slowly.Clessy wrote:Any chance for a hi reso version?

The Macintosh version had its graphics redone in higher resolution (640x480, I think). Maybe the developers could work on that, rather than the DOS version?

abandonware isnt legal. its like copying old music illegally. just because nobody will go after you for it doesnt mean its legal.Excessive wrote:As far as I know you can download Flashback fully legally from the internet from abandonware sites.

This is an awsome port, hopefully will be worked on more. Thanks to GPL and Troy Davis, and whoever else is putting in their time. Flashback is one of my favorite games, Out Of This World (Another World) would be just as sweet. Keep up the good work

There is a port of RAW to play "Out of This World" by MetaFox. I don't know the status of his port right now, RAW was discontinued, but Metafox has obtained permission to release the dreamcast version anyway.Jinx wrote:This is an awsome port, hopefully will be worked on more. Delphine's gone bankrupt and been liquidated... though I heard Eric Chahi is working on a remake of Out of this World. It'd be nice to see a new generation of gamers being introduced to the masterpiece that challenged my l33t sk1llz when I was younger...
(damnit, I feel OLD now! But it's been just a while ago - I played in the mid-1990s... *sigh*)
