New DC Homebrews - Thoughts, anyone?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

New DC Homebrews - Thoughts, anyone?

Post by goatdan »

By now, some of you should have already received copies of Inhabitants and / or Maqiupai... What do you guys think? Please post any thoughts that you have, or your high scores on Maqiupai... so far, no one is beating me!

Check out the Maqiupai site and high scores at http://www.goatstore.com/maqiupai/ if you haven't already!

That's because those homebrew games must be purchased ;)

I tell ya, I certainly wouldn't mind playing those games. I just can't afford to buy them :(

I ordered mine yesterday, and got them today. Standard mail too. Im impressed with that speed. I like the packaging and stuff. Looks nice. The games them selves can get addictive. Keep up the good work.

Haven't received mine yet. I ordered from Lik-Sang though. (I booked them quite some time ago. Next time ill order directly from Goat-store). I guess it might have to do with the fact that I live in Sweden so shipping will take some time :)

I'm still playing them. I'd rather not just play for a weekend, and not be objective.

But I WILL give first impressions.

I like Maqiupai more from a jump in and play standpoint. Its gameplay is arcadey in nature: get rid of tiles in alloted time. When time runs out, game is over. Hi-Score is THE reason for playing. THAT'S fun to me.

Inhabitants has more "production values." Its a prettier game, has more options upon startup, and has what looks to be a decent multiplayer mode. I haven't played it enough to say what type of unlockables it has. It has a nifty vocal tutorial. The BGM is pretty bad, tho. Sorry, S+F.

Once I get a bit more playtime in, I'll write a full review. :D

I figured someone would comment on the music sooner or later. Well I guess it *was* commented on when the winners for DreamOn were announced ;)

That's why once the game loads, you can swap in your favorite audio CD or a CD with OGG files in the root and it will play them.

Enjoy

Personally, I don't know why people don't like the music in Inhabitants. As soon as I got the CDs in, the first thing I did was listen to the soundtrack. The guys at work liked it too.

Most people do like the Remix music more though... so make sure to check that out!

BTW, GOAT Store is currently down. We are aware of the problem and looking into it. My email is down too :(

I appeal to what I have heard of the music so far! Something about it seems professional and as though it will become a classic nostalgia.

As soon as I have a chance to play the game, I will likely post impression.

these games are nifty sounding but those game are not my cup of tea but inhabitants is pretty addictive though, I do have a idea for a game that would be nifty, How about a Prince of Persia like clone, it will provide challenge and piss you off. Great job on the releases of these fine HB games.

my copies just arrived, havent looked at the games yet (im at work)

but i wanna say: i love the cases and covers, very high quality. Since i adored shanghai on the Sega Master System and i already liked the inhabitants preveiw version, i am sure these games will be put in my dc often.

Final word: I hope everyone orders these games. For 15 bucks you cant go wrong and also, its a small tribute to this great scene. I would love to see many new releases in the near future from GOAT

I kinda wish there would of be some collectors shelve to put both games in.
Pay like $35 for the collectable version. Ohh well.

I only have a choice to get one if any. Which one would you people say is the better bang for you buck.

I know there are signed versions of Inhabitants DC. There may be signed versions of Maqiupai as well. The signed versions of Inhabitants DC are autographed by Brandon Parker and myself. Inquire with Goatdan regarding those autographed copies.

Why not do a three-in-one pack with FOF and the other two for $39.99? May be an idea.
