Newbie modder in need of advice

Post by Tristan »

I'm looking to add some visual flavor to my Dreamcast by way of a new case, replacing the main LED and if possible, squeeze some wee cathodes in there as well.

Mainly, I've been shopping around for some lights and think I've come across some stuff that I think would work; but first want to verify it with people who've got experience with this sorta thing.

LED:

Cathodes:

I'm thinking going with the 4" tubes because I opened up my 'cast and didn't feel there was a whole lot of room to work with for fitting in tubes. If I can't get ahold of the 4's, would 6" tubes be an alternative? Or would I have to go with something like EL-Wire lights?

Last, anyone got a link handy for installing cathodes in a Dreamcast, and any ideal spots for mounting them inside the case?

Thanks for looking over all this, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

The viewing angle on the LED is low, it is priced fairly high and doesn't give you an MCD rating that I saw (just looked quick). For LED's I'd recomend http://www.lsdiodes.com.
