PVR Resolution?

Post by ssj4goku128 »

In all PVR demos, there is no setting of resolution in any of the examples. Does it just default to 640 by 480 with 16 bit depth?

Default is 640x480, 16-bit (RGB565), 60Hz

would be easier for homebrewn games to be in 32-bit depth seeing that SH-4 carry data in 32-bit chunks anyway and plus the game spends less time converting colors and such. or do the color depth the way SH-4 have nothing to do with each other?

Not really. If a (2D) game doesn't use RGB565, it tends to use 24-bit, or 8-bit paletted modes. Either of those would need to be converted anyway.

One of the advantages of dreamcast powervr over other graphics hardware is that 16-bit framebuffer on powervr looks just as good as (if not better than) 32-bit frame buffer on conventional hardware. This is because powervr does colour calculations internally at 32-bits regardless of framebuffer depth.

As such, it is faster to use 16-bit framebuffer and you still get the 32-bit quality.
