NeoGeo CD V8.0 release

Post by Ian Micheal »

Hi, Lot of changes on this version first up i like to thank a few people and give them credit for there work on the project.

Speud for converting SDL video to PVR rending. Fosters for allways helping out on the dc version when we dont understand or miss a function. Black aura for anwsing my topics and (Q) when i dont understand some thing in the programing forum and pm's.

Now to the changes and improvements.

List of improvements in this version are.

- PVR rending no longer using SDL for video.
- PVR filtering grafix smoothing. *BILINEAR*
- No Frameskip needed code removed.
- UP to 10fps faster.
- All clipping problems sides of screen fixed.
- VGA support should be center now.
- Code reduction optmizing.
- Many games have hit fullspeed now
- Not all games are fullspeed
- No SFX
- Seems to be some CDDA improvement now with some game tracks
- cdaudio(kos) used By Troy Davis (GPF)
- loading times are faster there is no loading screen any more not needed
- splash screen stays to the game has loaded no black screen and more

Games that run at fullspeed no frameskip are as follows

Aero fighters 2 (CDDA)
Bust a move
Street hoops (CDDA)

Game still not fullspeed are

Metal slug 1 suffers slow down but then speeds up to 60fps
metal slug 2 the same as 1.

Retest all games please and see if there is any thing thats broken. I dont have many games.

Im very happy with this release i hope you will be. It has BILINEAR on for this version.

Changeable filters was some thing i dont have the time right now to work on. Plus a team member Quzar has told me were going to put this in the region selector later and lots of other goodies for next time. Geting closer to the perfect version now.

Keep it the same - since it's a port of NeoCD/SDL.

Heh, that was part of the question but not an option ;)

When we dont use any SDL it would be missleading to programers to call it SDL when it uses no SDL libs or functions just think people download the source and seeing no SDL would be pissed at me calling it SDL.

This is a common email i get and the names thrown at me are listed. I put the option now for that for no name change...hehe.

Ive not changed it the name yet were still, using SDL for Controls and timer function, and some CD loading functions.

When that is totaly removed, a name change would, be worthy since it would no longer use SDL, and would lead to confusion for programers downloading non SDL source code when the name says it is. If we remove SDL alltogether it is back to almost the dos version.

But im not even thinking of changing it unless it's totaly kos functions it's close now not there yet.

But im sure you can see the point calling some thing SDL with no SDL code or functions would be confusion to the SDL homepage for one and all programers that look at it.

Please talk about it i welcome it.

What about calling it NeoGeo DC?

Here's a thought: DCNeoCD.

You could even go for the palindromic name something like DCNeoeNCD
DCHelp - A Newbie's Best Friend
DC Evolution - Disc Images

Intresting Im testing the games i have now and im have a great time. On puzzle bubble hehe. I like no frameskip gumbles.

I can post games i have that run at 60fps later most of the one's i have do.

metal slug 1 and 2 still suffer slow down. Mostly every other game runs close to fullspeed and with out frameskip . So it's to me my must fav release ive ever done of this emulator.

Enjoy the release. :D

When you get rid of SDL my vote is on NeoCD/DC, which is none of the above.

You can still see that its based on NeoCD that way.

right quick code review time.

change

Code: Select all

	// Call display routine
		video_draw_screen1();
to

Code: Select all

    // Call display routine
    if (neogeo_prio_mode)
        video_draw_screen2();
    else
        video_draw_screen1();
in neocdc.c
or samurai spirits rpg wont display properly.

youll need to add video_draw_screen2 to video.h
