Physical Dreamcast Modifications
A friend of mine at school showed me a picture of his Newly-painted DC, and I got to think about modifications for the system; have any of you guys modified/customized your system, and how?

This should be in the Hardware and Modification forum.....
The ones that you can do and have been done are.....
-Changing the color of the power "light" (Its a LED)
-Paintjobs
-Lid Switch
-Reset Button
-Putting a light behind the modem socket so light glows out the back
-Putting a light behind the fan, so light glows from there
For inspiration and seeing photos of other peoples mods check the links I posted in the FAQ of the Hardware Modification Forum.....http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewto ... 7&start=20

Another few mods could be:
VGA outputs
Added cooling
Runway strip LEDs (the little bumps along the sides of the CD area)
Selective repaints (just controller thing, just lid etc)
Another few that i have never heard of being done:
built in memory (have a memory card put into a modem casing and attach it to the 4th controller port)
replace the controller ports with a new frontend to feature whatever system you want to play emulated (snes, nes, etc)
Add a real serial port to the back (R whatever, the standard serial port)
Build in a KVM switch so that you can connect your PC to your DC and your DC to your keyboard video and mouse.

i actually came up with this idea some time ago, but i decided not to go trough with it, it would be a lot of work, and the modem casing proves to be a very tight fit for vmu innards, also i didnt feel like risking my only dc, maybe when i get another i might try some outrageous stufquzar wrote:Another few mods could be:

and another suggestion: i just watched the fast and the furious, and i was thinkin:
- green/black paintscheme, like the car the cop has at the start
- green leds along the bottom, once again, copcar inspired me
- do a modem led mod, but this time combine it with the gd-rom indicator, like a tail pipe, bursting out NOS boosts whenever the gd rom revs
- put some cool racing/tuning brand sticker on top, like a hornet or something
- add a rear spoiler
there is not a chance ill do this mod tough, i just think it would look outrageous

speaking of modem casings, ive got 7 extra modems that i picked up the other day. i went to a local video game rental place, and they had a trash bag and i saw 7 dc modem's laying on-top of all the trash. i asked about them and they said they were throwing them away, and i asked if i could have them, they gave them to me

yea i have like a billion from my 22 dreamcast eBay experience (along with 3 null terminators so they have no LINE hole). With a VM (not vmu) the fit isnt that bad by the way, i tested it, just never did it.

putting on a spoiler would be cool, I might have to try that. The idea with the built in memory would have to be worth a shot, but I still tihnk the de la creame of mods would be getting a working tray release gd-rom.
I need at least another 2 DC's so I oculd try all this. Its a pitty they cost so much in Australia

MKE- You my man dogg...
Ninja- You said some of my ideas... I feel so loved...
Hey, there's a crap load of mods out there... But invent your own. I like to think i invented the night light mod, where you can see your CD at night from inside the lid... I also feel i invented the RCA jacks out the back. Probably not but hey... whatever. Yeah, my sites been neglected for awhile. I have a few mods to add, but too busy playign my new PS2 I finally got fixed. Good luck man...
