NeoCD/SDL DC version 6

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

NeoCD/SDL DC version 6

Post by Ian Micheal »

Here's what's new

*Frameskipping: it was implemented before but not properly. it is fixed and set at ~4.
*Frame Limiting: This allows for the emulator to slow down if it is rendering too fast.
*VMU Display: Existed before but was broken, now displays a neo geo logo, saving... or "PUSH UP FOR REGION SELECT" when appropriate.
*Optional Region Select: Region select is now not default. To access it, hold up while the emu is loading. (defaults to USA)
*Game Autoloading: Now the emulator auto-loads game, no need to wait and hit start, just put in a CD when prompted, and the emulator will do the rest.
*Speedup: The emulator has been sped up by around 10% max, without the frameskip. When frameskip is taken into account, it runs almost completely full speed.
*Right trigger will make the emu run in slow motion
*Misc bugfixes and code optimizations. 2 players is via using 2nd player on the keyboard at this time.

Quzar did a lot of work on this i thank him for that..

most if not all games work better now. Enjoy

Shawdows now flash as well.

Games that are much improved to play are..

-View point
-Magic drop 2
-Aero fighter 2
- king of fighter 99

List is pretty large

What works not as well
-Metal slug 2

Other then that all games seem and work a lot better.

Test away please

Nice job guys... keep it up. My friend is still being an ass and won't let me borrow ANY of his games. I don't think he likes that fact that a machine he payed so much for is so easily emulated on another console... hahahahaha.

hehe. When working on this i tested with one of the only two games i had, metal slug, so everyone should see that metal slug works almost perfectly, although many other games will show drastic improvement.

What this exacly means? is there any button to turn on/off the frameskip?

When exacly hold the "up" button (or analog stick?) because i trying and i cannot run the selector.

Maybe something corrupted, but if i pressed right trigger nothing happens. And second player can play ONLY on keyboard :?

And One more thing; in METAL SLUG 1 in GALLERY MODE if you want to exit you must press the "SELECT" button (ofcourse there`s no any ;)
Actually: Outrun2 (XBOX)

frame skip is pesudo auto and limter it needs no settings adustment it's better then before and im sure you agree.

Press up on the "Dpad" not the Analog stick.. It works with out a problem.

Hold Right trigger on some games you will noticed it get a lot slower Does on windjammers.

Thanks for report. but most are known errors..

Would be nice to now about the new features added you cant mess up with auto loading now If you can i like you to film it.

Main really good parts of this is, Auto game loading, and the selector for the region does not get in the way of the booting, unless you want it to. Makes Loading games A lot faster and easyer. Speed up is over all Which some people might not understand.

I thing metal slug 1 and 2 might be a bit slower in parts and faster in other parts.

But Some games run quiet will this time. It was thought This was a good step forward in features and use ..

great job, ian and quzar. you implemented all the features i possibly could have wanted, all that's left now is cd audio fix and (possibly) SFX, although don't feel too pressed to do the latter.

although...why does second player have to use keyboard?

I don't know but maybe if this isn't too much to ask but for one of the future releases if it's possible I'd like to see support for arcade pads. This would also mean mapping the C button for NGCD to R on the regular pad (on my arcade pad it makes the c button on the pad the R button on the joypad, I think).

This would be fantastical. Thanks for the good work.

There is currently no way to turn off the frameskip and it is set at a static value of 4. The reason it is sped up by 10% max without frameskip says that while testing with frameskip disabled, it gained ~10% speed from core video tweaks. With the frameskip (which is all you can play with), it runs fullspeed almost all games, although there is still occasional slowdown.
