$500 contest - Stepmania - Attn coders and DC enthusiasts
How would you like to make $500? Now that I've got your attention...
Rules:
Contest lasts for one year. The first team to complete a fully-working version of Stepmania for the Dreamcast entertainment system will win a whopping $500.
What we're looking for in a SM DC port:
-Relative flexibility in audio bittrates (a game capable of playing back mp3s or ogg files)
-Compatilibity with existing stepfiles for the REAL Stepmania (on PC)
-Easy song-insertion ability (in other words, point, drag, burn stepfiles and mp3s or oggs)
-Possible modem-game matches
-Compatibility with PSX to DC controller porters
-Video-based backgrounds
All entry teams must include the following information:
-Team title
-Number of members in team
-Email address(es) where the lead member can be reached
Email all entry forms to: smdc2004@yahoo.com
And may the best team win!

To all of the teams that enter, I send (through snail-mail) out a hand written and signed contractual agreement that if they are the winning team, I will pay the $500.Dr Wily wrote:Forgive me for being sceptical, but do you have any assurances that this money will in fact be paid?
Given that your join date is today, and you have free webbased email for all corespondance - perhaps you could put the money in 'escrow' in a paypal account in advance as a mark of good faith?

Stepmania...
I looked into porting StepMania a while back. It is a very nice, but very complex piece of software. I doubt that with the currently available tools that it would be possible. But hey, who knows.

Same reason I'd pay $1,500 for a clone of Tetrisphere (or Dream Sphere if you will
on the Dreamcast. (I would be creating most if not all music for the title, so all would
really be needed is a programmer and a kick ass graphic artist for the awesome visuals)
As far as Stepmania...Zer0-X... why don't you just get in touch with the developers that
made Stepmania and get the source... someone could port it very easily and it would
hold together very nicely. It's a thought?!

It is a question asked by many a stepmania fan to the stepmania creators, and the bottom line is they simply refuse for their own reasons...all of the source is available on http://www.stepmania.com , though...
