MSN Messenger 6.1 Audio Problem...

Post by LukeD »

Well it seems like I can't get an audio connection to other people's computers. Video is fine but audio just says connecting and then finally...

"The network or computer you are trying to reach is experiencing a problem. Please try again later.

The audio conversation has ended."

I'm running XP Pro with a DSL connection WAN Miniport (PPPoE)
and I was able to before but all of a sudden I cant now. Maybe it was some windows update I installed but anyway I've done a search and tried several things so far...

1. Turned of XP Firewall (thats all the protection I have running lol)
2. Unchecked QoS Packet Sheduler
3. Uninstalled and then re-installed MSN Messenger 6.1
4. Uninstalled 6.1 then installed 5.0 (still didn't work)
5. Uninstalled 5.0 then Reinstalled 6.1
6. Found UPnP was uninstalled and installed it
7. Probably other things I cant remember

Checked these websites (ther people made posts similar to my problem only I think most of these posts were made before 6.1 came out)

Anyway thanks fot the help in advance. Oh and for your trouble, if you don't already know about this it is a MSN Block Checker (checks to see if someone is really online) Sometimes it is down though due to so many people trying to use it.

i have the same problem with someone else. i think it's his router. we use skype if we want to chat, the only thing is that skype steals all the upload bandwith and the webcam for msn messenger is very choppy. we tried 5.0 and voice worked, but, the webcam was the size of a postage stamp.

yeah. me and my brother (lives with a cousin currently) have had this issue. it was their router. simply get the ports checked on it and forward them correctly and it should be good to go.

Hmm I don't have a router though, just and external usb dsl modem. MSN Messenger doesnt connect through a proxy server. Just a direct connection. How do I manually change my ports if I'm just using direct connections? I doubt it has anything to do with my XP firewall either since it still doesnt work when off.

if its a dsl modem, id check its config. dsl modems are notorious for running their own NAT software which often fubar's things.
