Finally Getting It Back!

Post by Specially Cork »

I've decided after making the regrettable mistake of selling my N64 a few years ago, and losing some of my most favourite games in the process (Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect DarK).
I'm going onto ebay with my wages, and buying as much of it back as I can. :D

Shouldn't be too bad.
You might also want to hit up some used game shops as well. They usually have Mario 64 lying around, and most of the time Goldeneye as well.

Yeah, it runs Mario 64 pretty much flawlessly. Bond has heavier requirements though, a bit choppy on my computer.

No matter how good emulation gets, there's nothing like playing the actual console.

Exactly.
I cant understand how people can play games sat a desk. Seriously, its uncomfortable, unrelaxing, you have to play everything on a crappy monitor, i have other people mithering to get on it, it smells of "work environment" and upgrading my PC to play PJ64 would cost more than an N64 anyway.

whats is so good with the old consoles now that you can play on your pc?

you perfer to play on some tubed tv? monitors are dead cheap now. good flat screen ctr monitors.
pc surround sound
enhanced resolution for all your 3d games (mario 64 on 1024x786 owns n64 anyday)
and last psx controller connected to pc to play all your games.

and last online play of all your fav old games. i'm not sure if p64 has it yet but it is safe to assume with be released soon just like the snes and psx emulators did.

For emulating the PSX yeah I'll use one but I can't stand using it for anything else.

I'm pretty sure there's an adapter to hook up an N64 controller, and I used to have a "joystick" that had the same button layout as the SNES.

But I likes emulation on my DC.

Some of those N64 games are expensive at the game stores. Goldeneye is like $20 here, Mario Kart is $25. considering you can get the system for $20 and its a dead system that is steep.

Its not about the hardware. its just the "im sitting at my pc in the study, with the rest of my family wanting to use it" thing.
if it was MY computer, in MY room, then yes, I would use it to play games. But here I have to have the volume turned down, get people walking past and talking to me all the time, and I can just crash out on my bed and play. Sitting sucks.

Also, I love some of this logic...
"Dont spend ?25 on an N64. Emulate instead, just buy a decent tft monitor for ?150+ or whatever, and upgrade your gfx card etc. etc."
Not really worth it.

Emulate on Xbox. ?55 for a second-hand Xbox, and zilch to exploit it. At those prices, it's just about worth getting one :).

Or you could get the real thing, which has infinitely more value to someone who values that type of thing. I personally do, and I prefer to use the original carts when possible. Emulation is nice too though.
Goldeneye is like $20 here
Ripoff. It's very common. Should be $10, and Perfect Dark should be $5.
