Everytime i install something (hardware), my power supply starts smoking when i remake the connections and plug it in and turn it on. what's goin on with it? the power supply is set at 115v, and the connections are exactly the same when i get it back from the shop...

Uhm.. perhaps you need power supply with a higher wattage.
I would definetly recommend replacing it if it smokes!

smoking lol - i would be 2 scared 2 turn on my pc if it was smoking -

my hd is 2 damn valuable - if i ever lose my 20 gigs of porn i would die!!!!!!!!!!

Thanx guys. i'm buyin my 300 power supply today! thanx! Oh, and i don't think it damaged the drive or anything, last time it smoked all that died was:
-sound card (onboard, blew)
-power supply (duh)
-and my 2nd USB port

that happened to me this summer, only several things popped and sparked and blew up, so my computer was pretty much destroyed. This one's a lot better anyway. All I did was fix my color settings in the properties, reset, and BOOM!

I had smoke pour out of my computer once. It was an .. interesting experience. A Harddrive, laying loose in the case slid onto the speaker, shorting the solder joints on it. The rubber melted from the black ground, which caused smoke to pour from my computer, and the smell was horrible. Lucky for me, only the speaker was damaged. I still use that harddrive today and it's fine

I got some lovely scortch marks in my computer case as well
