there were blank ''GD-R's'' available which can be burned on using a cd writer?

Well there isnt because I think the disks are regular disks (I think), and they writer is just different, it writes smaller I belive.

For the most part your probably right, but if you look at the DC disks, there is an obvious split, where the audio track seperates from the data track. But, I think the technology is no different than a regular CD-ROM, just higher density. Thats why copied games and hombrew CD-Rs work fine. They dont need to be some off the wall proprietary media.
