PlayStation "Swap" Method
Time for me to switch into n00b mode for a bit.
Last night, I bought a PlayStation (SCPH-7501). I hear that there is a swap method on the PlayStations (similar to the Saturn). Does this work with homebrew stuff? Can someone give me an explanation on how to do it?

Not sure if it works on that model but it goes somethin like this:
open lid & insert regular game
use a spring or some blu tack (my method) to hold down the little bit that makes it think the lids shut (easy to find, near the back and can be pushed down)
now the next step varies depending on what model probably certainly some do it another way but I used to play a few seconds of it in the cd player then stop & switch discs
once thats done go back to the main menu & it should if all went well boot up the disc

The way I've used is to turn on the PSX with an original game, wait for it to spin really fast, then when it slows down for a few seconds swap with your CD-R and it should pick up speed again. This will probably wreak havoc on your motor though, so I'd reccomend a modchip or at the very least a Game Hunter, although those do still wear the motor over time (apparently).

yeah gameshark and Action replay are identical (up until the last release)TheGatesofBill wrote:How about a GameShark, do those work? I hear that people use Pro Arction Replay things, but those appear to not exist in the US, and, if I remember correctly, are more or less the same thing as a GameShark.

My method works best on the first ones, ability to use it on later models may vary a bit, I wound up just gettin a chip in the end due to being too lazy to keep swapping my imports round. There are a few ar clones that go in the parralel port that have chips in em as well that might be worth lookin out for, though I forget the exact model the port was removed at.

The PS-Xchange discs are worth looking into IMO. I have a PSone and this disc lets me boot anything for the PS with no hassles and also supposedly supports gameshark cheats without requiring an external cart but I've never gotten them to work

All the multi-disk games I've encountered give you the option of saving at the end of the first disc, so that you can then load using the next disc.farrell2k wrote:gameshark/psx-change is the best, but you'll never be able to play multi disc games like FF.

Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Chase the Express (has a name to do with nuclear something in the US)
Resident Evil 2
Parasite Eve 2 (almost definately as it's another Sqauresoft game)
I can't think of any others at the moment. I don't think I really played my PSone all that much.
