I have left my DCast on for over a month when I lost my memory card one day because I had no watch and needed to take my only VMU at the time with me to make sure I dont' miss the bus er sumthin.
Had mine since the day it was released! Sept. 9, 1999.
Working like a charm, and I do use Emulators like crazy, take the little sucker everywhere, and even browsed the net with it for the entire week! STRAIGHT!!!
Built to Last, to say the least. My PS2 died after running GTA3 for a month! Had to swap it for a new one! Jeez!

I must have had a dud, because after 6 months of just normal off and on playing, something happened at the video went crazy. I think it overheated yet I was only playing it for 5 min that day before the prob started. It was still under warranty so I just sent it to sega and got a new one. Now no probs!
HOLY CRAP!

I have also bought a 2nd & 3rd one just in case. My first one seems to be holding out fine for the moment though.Grooverider wrote:I have had mine since UK release date October 1999 (I think). Buy a second one - that is what I have done - because I would be distraught if my DC died and I couldn't get another one.

Don't you think it is strange to even say that new consoles with proper care last like 3-5 years?
Maybe i live in the past but i expect console to last at least my lifetime. I got NES 11 years ago and it still works 100%, only joypads are very poor working but console itself works like a charm. I think it's horrible to even think my dreamcast should live 1-3 years![Surprised :o](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

Well, i can?t see why a Dreamcast should fail...
I guess it?s due to some manufacturing failure or something.
I have 2, one of them has 2 fans (i?ve added 1 more fan to cool
the thing by flowing air from the left, where the power supply is
located), and i?ve had my Dreamcast turned on for more than 6 hours
without any overheat problem.
Anyway, i miss that good old days when a game console was forever...
Cartridge based systems are a lot tougher, my 1981 Atari2600 system
still works and has never failed. The same as my Megadrive and Snes.
I guess the problem is those higher speed processors and their overheating
along with the lens nature...
Well, i hope we are lucky with our machines and hope they remain alive for a lot of years!!
