Laser motor broken??

Post by AgentSW »

I think that's what may be wrong with my DC.

I was playing game recently, and it froze, and went back to the main DC menu, so I turned it off adn quit for a while, but then when I went to play it again it wouldnt start up, it kept going to the main menu over and over again. It does this with every game, not only that but when the Dreamcast intro is playing, i can see it speed up and slow down the psinning disc multiple times, adn it doesnt instantly go to the main menu, it just kind of sits at the Dreamcast logo screen for a bit then does it.

The disc spins fine ,but the laser doesn't seem to move loaction at all... is there a way to fix that?

If you've been playing backups of commercial games, that is what killed it.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and when they catch you, they will kill you... but first they must catch you.

First:
Yes I do have 2 back ups, but amzingly I have legit reasons for having them (my original games are too scratched to play)

Second, it didn't dieo n either on e of those games, but instead on a commercial game (Power Stone 2)

Third I have a lot of emulator dsics and various stuff from this site, does that hurt (or fo rhtat matter why would back ups of commercial games hurt?)

Finally ater opening it up and poking around I found that if I reset the laser to the outside position using the white gear, it will then move to it's position dsuring load up ONCE, but won't move again, unless I repeat the operation, either way... it doesn't work...

And btw a bit off topic but I have an older account on DCemulation, but everytime I try to post under it it says "You can't post another post so quickly" or something like that.../..

And I haven't posted under that account in over 6 months!

Im having simalar problems... Still haven't fixed it

But i find if i holdmy lid about 0.5cm open it works fine...

In which case it might be the switch that tells whether the lid is up or down gone wrong... In my case im not sure if it pushes the leaver when the lid is all the way down. My be when the lid is all the way down, it ends up pushing the leaver to the side of whats ment to push it, coz the thing that pushes the leaver when the lid is down don't apear to be aligned, hence reseting.... (If that makes sense :( )

Or

Have you tryied realigning the lens? (There was a tut somewhere on how to do this but i've lost it :( )

Right, as far as i remember......

To realign the lens... un screw the dc casing....

Take off the top half of the case...

then you have to lift the black thing(technical name there) were the lens is based up... You don't have to unscrew anything to do this..... but it is akward to do...

Then on the reverse side is a little screw.... tighten it... very carefully coz it should nearly be tight if it is mis aligned....

Hope that helps....

P.S

And incase your insterested.... i fix my DC.... The switch that tells it the lid is up or down was moving back, forward and right as apose to just back and forward.... It took a fare few matches ^_^ . but i stoped it moving to the right... If it is the switch i hope that helps.....

I had the same problem, but a friend took the cable on the end of the laser off, and now it is totally broken.
Is it to reparable????
