There is no reason for which you can't. However, the more the speed, the more is the disc prone to have errors at writting/reading

4x is just the recommended burn speed. I burn stuff at 8x usually and have had just a couple of problems in the year I've owned my burner. However, I've never encountered a problem at 4x. So in the end, you're free to use the speed you like. Just remember, the higher you go, the more coasters you may end up with. Besides, even if you completely fill a disk, it will still only take about a half hour at 4x. Surely you can find something to do for a half hour while you wait. :)

if your pc is fast enough, around 600 mhz, it should be fine at 8 speed. thats what i use and i have no problems. i dont understand why some people have all kinds of problems and their machines are way newer than mine.

Mine's at 733, and I've only had a couple of problems in the past year, mainly with music CD's getting that 'skip' noise.

high speed is not good for audio or video it may work fine no problem in a newer cd drive but dont take it to a freinds with a old 2x or 12 x drive

i have a backup machine with a x6 cdrom it reads 100% nothing if i burn it over 4x

under 2X the 6X old driver has no problems the same is true for the old model psx 1,2x speed is the only one that works for the first model psx

the later models had better lasers if you dc is a later model then it can have some skiping iin the music

i burn at 4X only cant see why you have burn any faster i browse the board while i burn things ... 28 mins for 700meg cd at 4x

if you use nero

never heard of a cdburner that's lowest speed is 8x that suxs

audio cds would not work on my old cd players at the speed ive tested them some are from 1987 thou lol

My dreamcast is a October 2000 model. I bought it new when they had just been marked down to 100 dollars at the time.

Really, it also largely depends on your burner. If you have a nice brand of burner, then you should be okay. However, if your like my roomate and buys a cheap unknown burner, you'll end up with a lot of problems. I don't think he has successfully burned a CD at anything higher than 4x, and his burner can go up to 12x.

its purely a memory issue. i never burn past 4x. anything higher is just asking for trouble.
