What is ramen? What? Ramen is basically flavored noodles that are cooked. You could eat 'em plain, or you could eat 'em as soup.zickfun wrote:what is ramen?

Just a little update.
Busy as hell moving into my new uber big room. There is no phone line ou there, so net access is still kinda limited.
In Ramen related news, I would just like to toss a pointer or two in this thread.
1. Chugging The Noodle Water Warning
It is very important to let the noodle water cool before chugging. Failure to do so may result in severe burning of your throat and mouth, and all those around you laughing their asses off because you are such a dipshit.
2. Reducing Salt Content
I realise that health - concious people my fear Ramen due to its high content of MSG (Monosodium Glutemate, I believe) and salt. To reduce the content of these two ingredients significantly when making Ramen noodles using either the stove top or microwave method, do this: After you have rolled the noodles into the flavour puddle and covered them in flavour, hold the noodles back and drain off all of the remaining broth. This will greatly lower the amount of MSG and sodium in your Ramen. Health conscious morons.

God Top Ramen sucks. That's the official results. Top Ramen sucks terribly. Long live Maruchan.
Anyone know of any other cool Ramen noodle brands? All I have here is Top and Maruchan Ramen.

I ruined myself on ramen years ago by eating it too much. Now the smell makes me quesy. I'll never eat it again.. maybe certain brands like Sapparo, once in a while, but no more Maruchan or Top Ramen.
Some of those Korean noodle bowl things are pretty good though - Nong Shim (Ning Shom?) Hot and Spicy (not Kim Chee) is good when I need my sinuses cleaned out.

I had no motivation to update this before, but here I go:
A while back, Nissin improved their Picanate Beef Top Ramen flavor. The packaging is now green. There are red colored noodles inside. The flavoring packet is way mor intense. After being cooked, this improved version is WAY more spicy than the old one. I can feel my stomach burn an hour after eating this stuff. Remember to have water, because the first few bites are HOT.

one thing that is good, although it sounds gross as hell:
Cook Ramen Noodles in WATER
DO NOT ADD THE PACKET OF FLAVORING
Once cooked, drain water, put ramen into bowl
Mix in packet of flavoring well.
Now, take a piece of Swiss Cheese, let it melt in till its melted enough to stir around, now cover noodles with cheese.
tastes really good, trust me.

<-------- This is my favorite Ramen noodle flavoring technique. I dont know what the hell ninja was thinking with the cheese though. My second favorite method would be fatheadpi's method of the package of flavor in the small water in bowl from ladel. Awesome. My favorite brands are sapporo ICHIBAN (the greatest) Maruchan, then when I go into chinese fish markets to buy fish bait, I always grab a ramen package that I have no idea what it is or what brand and I try it. Usually they taste pretty damn good too.
