I've released a demo version (1.5) of an RPG that I am creating for the Dreamcast and the PC. Its not much right now (only the beginnings of a Final Fantasy-esque battle system), but hopefully that will change soon. You can find it on my site at http://ljsdcdev.sunsite.dk/.
Feel free to comment on it in this topic: http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=28409.

Dynamite Posted by CyRUS64 @ 19:55
Jonas Norberg has released a dreamcast version of his and Bj?rn Kalzen's freeware puzzlegame Dynamate. It is also available for linux, beos, amiga, and gameboy colour, although according to the authors the dreamcast version is the best yet

It also has an integrated level-editor that enables you to create your own puzzles to challenge your friends.

If anyone converts this to a self-booting image or takes some screenshots then please mail them in and i'll add them to the downloads page too.

BigBoy the Author of emulators for the Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast has updated his site with this great update about his Commodore 64 emulator for the Dreamcast.

Okay, I promised some news....Well, as promised...(long ago... in a land, far far away...etc.)....I've started up DC64 on the Dreamcast again. I've added a front end and can load in games from disk. No .TXT file needed here! (one up on the PS2!!!). Keyboard support is also there (another on over the PS2 version) and will be needed for many games no doubt.

There is still some work to do, so no release dates yet, and its not quite as compatable as the PS2 version, mainly due to optimisations required to run the thing fast enough. However, many are due to bugs that have been introduced, and will be fixed.

I've been playing delta, Commando and Uridium again, and its all great fun. Speed wise, its using 1 frameskip, (draw a frame, skip a frame), but it looks fine, and game play is full speed, which is important.

I'll try to update with some pictures and news as I go, but remember there will be no sound - sorry. If anyone really wants to do a C64 emulator justice on this machine, they need to write one in ASM really... The CPU cache kills this, so writing in 16K pages in ASM is the way to get raw speed. Needless to same, Im not going to!

I promised to release "something" for otheres to use and play with, and I will.... so, rather than whinge, please just enjoy it when it comes. if however, anyone wants to do a real one, I'll chear along with everyone else!

Stay tuned.

I've released a new version of the ljsdcdev project.
Demo 2 has the following improvements over Demo 1.5:
- SDLMappy based Tilemapper
- Random Battles
You can get it from my sourceforge page:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljsdcdev/.

It'll be put on the ljsdcdev web page and an SBI will be made, as soon as I get the chance.

Written a small program to patch games made with KallistiOS 1.1.6 to 1.1.9 and make them work in 50Hz. It doesn't support anything older than that, or libdream, or commercial games, but it does work on most recent homebrew stuff, like Feet of Fury.

New Linux Distro For Dreamcast?
http://www710.univ-lyon1.fr/~c-vinc02/index.html

saw this posted at DCEvolution, not sure if it was already posted here though.

this is the artical from DCEvolution.

"A new user friendly Linux Distro is in the works, called Dream[Slack]. C?dric is making it for his school project and his intention is to make one where you can operate the system only through interfaces. So every Dreamcast user can use it without a mouse or keyboard! This distro can have a lot of potential. It is still in development, you can find more info at the official page
Thanks to Polochon for the news on his French DC site! "

dreammp3 sure looks sweet!
but playing ogg on the dreamcast? wow, that's something. those are heavy to decode!
and i mean, sid! that's soo cool. have to check how much it sounds like the original though sid-players usually don't have the <i>oomph</i> of the c64.

Both Feet of Fury and Smash DC use OGG files as background music.

Chn is "on fire", he has just released modplay for dreamcast. info from the read-me :
This is a player for standard, plain old Amiga Sound/Protracker MOD
files with 15 or 31 instruments and up to 32 channels. Other file
formats (669, Oktalyzer, MED, XM, S3M, whatever) are not supported and
are likely to crash the player.
download are available on his site : http://chn.roarvgm.com/ (unscrambled files)

or on my site (scrambled files) : http://dcreload.free.fr/DL/modplayv0.01b.zip

Reaper2k2 has updated his mame port for galaga (namco ver):
NEW requested features now

-screen flipping to the left & right & up

-button remapping: insert coin now mapped to (Y)

-button remapping: start game now has 2 buttons (START)&(A) either button starts game or = 1

-slowed the speed down to (I think) fullspeed not 120% speed

-removed images only one image then straight into game select

L@ Cible has ported opcode v1.2 which is a new small collision detection library. It is similar to popular packages such as SOLID or RAPID, but more memory-friendly, and often faster.

(The original autor of this library is Pierre Terdiman : Official page ; http://www.codercorner.com/Opcode.htm)

info from this topic : http://forum.aceboard.net/forum2.php?ru ... login=4752
New in Opcode 1.2:
- new VolumeCollider base class
- simplified callback setup
- you can now use callbacks or pointers (setup at compile time)
- destination array not needed anymore in the RayCollider (faster in-out tests)
- renamed classes: AABBRayCollider => RayCollider, AABBSphereCollider => SphereCollider
- the sphere query now only returns a list of faces (extra info discarded). On the other hand it's a lot faster.
- OBB, AABB and planes queries. Original OBB and AABB queries contributed by Erwin de Vries.
- cosmetic changes in OPC_BoxBoxOverlap.h contributed by Gottfried Chen
- some inlining problems fixed
- faster ray-mesh tests using the separating axis theorem
- new split value in AABB tree construction (contributed by Igor Kravtchenko). Provides faster queries most of the time.
- improved temporal coherence for sphere & AABB queries (works in "All contacts" mode)
download is available here : http://la.cible.free.fr/DreamCast/Opcode-1.2/

egoboo and freecraft for dreamcast

Post by LyonHrt »

News take from dcevolution
Bero has announced his new SDL projects for dreamcast.
The first is Egoboo, which is a 3d dungeon crawling adventure in the spirit of NetHack.
The status of this game is that currently only the title and scenario selection work, but crash's before the game.

The second is Freecraft, which is a real-time strategy gaming engine.
Again this is in very early stages, and only gets to the title.

You can download them both from http://sdl-dc.sourceforge.net however they are not playable, and only recomended for developers.

More info at the http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown/2004

DCplaya (aka the successor of dreamp3) is out !!
check the brand new (and also under construction;) site :

http://sashipa.ben.free.fr/dcplaya/

This player had support for mp3,oggvorbis, sid sc68 protracker music and also cd track (+ native support for playlist files : pls and m3u)
Dcplaya include a brand new visualisation plugins and an interface devoted to the music artist Jess Lysen ( http://www.jesslysen.com/ ). Also the big improvement is the plugins system kinda like in winamp, so it's easy for programmer to add new features to dcplaya (all is explained on the dcplaya site) . Of course it features many other things, just try it ;)

You can download it here : http://sashipa.ben.free.fr/dcplaya/ it's a big nero image (22mo) that contains dcplaya and 3 tracks from Jess Lysen .

Please respect the will of the autors :
As dcplaya team would like to know the popularity of its program, it should not be massively distributed by a third party. If you want to link dcplaya in your website, please do not link directly the distribution file. Link the dcplaya home page instead. The distribution package could be change in the limit of the personnal use, as soon as the author rights are respected. dcplaya must not be sell even without any benecice.

Thanks to the authors of this great app : Benjamin Gerard and Vincent Penne :)
