just open up a vmu, rip out the board, except for the part with the connector on it ( a rumble pack might give you more space to fit batteries), the put two batteries in, connect them in series and put the plus side to one pin, and the minus side to another pin, then find out the corresponding pins in the socket on the controller, and link them up to the original power points on the gba board
you could make multiple "powerpacks" and the vmu slot would make for easy changing, just "click" "click" and youve got new power

very interesting DrFreeze! Do you have an AOL, Yahoo, or MSN name that I can contact you with? You'll be a major assest to this mod for sure I'll definitely take pics tomorrow...my batteries are just recharging in my "ghetto webcam" and I'll use that to take the pics at the moment.
If you've got an ass, I'll kick it!

WIP Pics...laugh at will!
Here are some WIP shots! Laugh if you must!
I have come to a conclusion that I need a new fabricated controller back for this mod to work completely because that's the only way for the gba cart to work probably and fix the battery problem I'm having. I probably have to remove the VMU component completely but as far as having a completely working unit, It's coming close. If anyone of you out there can help me fabricate a new back controller component for this mod, I'd gladly pay you for your services, but I hope you guys like the pics and there'll be more soon.

Yeah I'm probably going to do that but I'll just have to see when I get to that point. Now I'm going to work on actually getting the controller section working this week. I just worked on getting the screen mounted last night and it took me a while but I got it. I still need that fabricated controller section tho. That's all I need.

Controller Back?
Ok...for anyone who's wondering what kind of controller back I'm needing it needs to be the back half of the gba for the top section, that including the L and R buttons and the bottom needs to be a regular controller back but that can house AA Batteries...That's pretty much it. Nothing harder than that.

you would be correct...i have no dremel tool but i did have my trusty hot-glue gun to melt down the controller with. One thing can be said about this: DO NOT ATTEMPT! I have a huge gash on my finger now where it burnt it really bad. I'm still planning to finish this mod, injury or no injury. Now, I'm just trying to figure out how to mold plastic...

here are some more shots of Project DCGBA in action, this time I'm playing Jet Grind Radio! This is the true intention of why I'm decking out my DC controller like this: To bring a bit of a tribute to the Dreamcast and Sega and show them that even with Nintendo's components in their new games, we still love em. Anyways, here are the shots!
I am going to go back and cover up my "melting job" on the controller front and mimic the Dreamcast VMU view screen look to it so that will probably come last. ...the back is still a problem but when I get that fixed up, the mod can be done in about two to three days time. The next shots I'm going to post is of Sonic Advance with the actual controller portion working. Stay Tuned!

Alright Gang! Here I am again with my "freak accident": Project DCGBA and I have figured out the last half of my mod! Here's the list of obstacles I'm going to take care of up to completion:
1) Solder wires onto GBA mobo
1a) Remove VMU unit (Awwww)
2) Run wires to DC mobo, super glue leads (+5 voltage...anyone know where it is?)
3) Make hole for LED light
4) Make hole for speaker
5) Extend power switch
6) Extend HP jack (Volume is just going to be up full blast so don't worry about that)
7) Mold Back half with epoxy putty
Make Cover for TFF screen
9) Test!
I'm looking for a design to be placed where the loop below the screen is so if you guys can send me your designs, one will have the honor of getting on this mod! Stay Tuned! Should be done by this weekend!
