I would love it if this device had a cartridge slot, and, I agree with you that it most likely could be so with minimal effort... but, remember that Sega is not in charge of this, and that Radica is most likely not targeting anyone above the most casual of gamers -- those that simply want a sort of "appliance" -- and so, they are keeping it as simple as possible. Here is a portion of the press release linked in a previous post:
Radica News Releases wrote:The foregoing discussion contains forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from projected results. Forward-looking statements include statements about efforts to attract or prospects for additional or increased business, new product introductions and other statements of a non-historical nature. Actual results may differ from projected results due to various Risk Factors, including Risks of Manufacturing in China, Dependence on Product Appeal and New Product Introductions, and Dependence on Major Customers, as set forth in the Company's Annual Report on Form 20-F for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2002, as filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. See "Item 3. Key Information -- Risk Factors" in such report on Form 20-F.
Statements such as "Dependence on Product Appeal and New Product Introductions" could go both ways, but, the scale has most likely been weighed between complexity and simplicity, and they have likely decided to move for simplicity...
About Radica Games Ltd. wrote:Radica Games Limited (Radica) is a Bermuda company headquartered in Hong Kong (Nasdaq: RADA). Radica is a leading developer, manufacturer and distributor of a diverse line of electronic products including handheld and tabletop games, girls' lifestyle products, high-tech toys and video game accessories. Radica has subsidiaries in the U.S.A., Canada and the U.K., and a factory in Dongguan, Southern China. More information about Radica can be found on the Internet at http://www.radicagames.com .
Actual "video game systems" are not mentioned in there, and, I'm guessing that they do not wish to start...

... however, as mentioned, if this device does actually utilize full Genesis hardware, then, modification opportunities abound! It is highly probable that the seven games will be in a ROM package attached directly (more or less) to where the cartridge connector would be. Speaking of which... It would be interesting if, in such a case, someone were to place the ROM inside of a regular Genesis cartridge, for play on a regular Genesis. 8-)

I read on the company profile page that they were looking to expand their company overseas, since they believe that most companies are turning better profits due to more or less global deployment... and so, they established a European branch, which may still be in the business of dealing with older consoles... Perhaps we could ask them about these ideas instead of Majesco USA or Radica...

Other TV game packages are just ports of games (bad ports apparently) rather than including the hardware or emulating the hardware
