Whats in store for NesterDC

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Evilpie: He has actually IMPROVED the emulation code....

It's MORE compatible than Nester PC!!!! (official version) so please read into it before bounding around posts like that....

Tyne: On some games, ask tekezo himself, it's not full speed yet, damn close though :)

fackue: Yes. I already have the code in there to autodetect a rom of a specific name (I use when I'm testing the same game over and over, to save from having to load it through the menu every time), I just never remembered to keep that feature in the final version.

I ought to get KOS set up on my system properly and see if I can figure out what's going on with FrNES getting slower when converted from an elf to a bin file.

HH, how has he improved compatibility? If you are referring to increased mapper support, he ported it over from unofficial nester.

Yeah, I know... the originial NesterDC was a port of Official Nester, therefore he has improved mapper support on that

When playing full screen... The games look weird. There are occasionally random lines through the screen. This is Pre-release 5 I think. It's not they're slow, there are just some annoying graphical anomalies. It doesn't *look* like a NES exactly fullscreen. Maybe it's just my DC or just that particular release..

I think that the reason full-screen (or even regular screen, I've noticed) look a little "off" from a real NES is because of the difference in the NES AV out and the Dreamcast AV out. Doesn't Dreamcast always have anti-aliasing turned on?

I like Nester DC a lot better than FrNES now. I used to use FrNES all the time, but now with all of the additions in the new releases I prefer playin NesterDC ;p

I really like the fact that it has a larger mapper support(Opposed to Frnes) but I think that the emulator would really benifit if the scrolling were a little smoother. I'm still using Frnes simply because I love it! I can play Punch Out and it's just amazing! I burnt another copy of it last night with a dummy file and you would not beleive how much smoother is loaded the files, played them, etc.
NesterDC is great but I haven't tried the latest version. I stopped at about ver 5.4. Buuuuuttttttt, has anyone tried out Mother(Earthbound)? I can play it perfectly on Frnes except when the battles come in. It gets all messed up! How is the speed? Is it comparable to Frnes? If the bug is fixed then that's enough to make me fire up my cruddy CD burner and burn me a copy. :D
