First Xbox 360 Emulator ever!
Someone has finally managed to create an NES emulator that runs pretty well on Xbox 360. I don't have all the details, but I know that it's basically a pain in the arse to set up and that there is no sound available yet. Obviously, it's just the first step in the right direction for emulation on the 360. There's a YouTube video that shows someone using the emulator here:

The video quality sucks, but it shows the emulator working without a mod chip.

Shouldn't it be "First emulator for Xbox 360 ever!" I entered this thread thinking it was about an Xbox 360 emulator on PC.

Even the youtube video is over a year old!Hasney wrote:Dude.... did you even check the date on the forum post the info section linked to? It's from when the 360 was first relased.

It is well known that you can run emulators over this Media Center trick.

There actually is an NES emulator that can run on an unmodded 360, but it's XNA, and only "Creator's Club" members are allowed to run XNA apps on 360...Maturion wrote:It is well known that you can run emulators over this Media Center trick.

And from what I've heard, the emulation is still sloppy and there's no sound. Not worth it right now, but it's a good starting point. For all we know there may be a way to crack that at some point in time so you can run XNA apps on the 360 without a membership, OR a modded 360...Ex-Cyber wrote:There actually is an NES emulator that can run on an unmodded 360, but it's XNA, and only "Creator's Club" members are allowed to run XNA apps on 360...Maturion wrote:It is well known that you can run emulators over this Media Center trick.

Re: First Xbox 360 Emulator ever!
From what I've heard, the lack of sound was because the version of XNA that they used didn't have any way to modify sound buffers; i.e. you could load a WAV or whatever into a buffer and play it, but not just allocate a buffer and fill it with arbitrary sound data. I think they said that sound code already existed but the API just didn't let them play it. There are exploitable kernel versions for running homebrew (which AFAIK requires a flashed DVD drive and a specially patched boot disc), but given the popularity of Live I'm not sure anyone will bother trying for a hacked MS firmware.Luriden wrote:And from what I've heard, the emulation is still sloppy and there's no sound.
