I installed the channel, wow that's easy as :D

This is great, now I just have to figure out how to get apps into it.

EDIT: Downloaded a rar with a few games/emulators/etc. all with the correct directory structure and files, easier than I thought it would be

EDIT2: What is gecko region free? A region free loader for Wii games? If yes, can I play NTSC games just by loading the homebrew channel, loading Gecko Region Free and booting the game?

Did you visit the address through your Wii, or did you download the stuff onto your SD card? How does it work?

I put the Zelda hack on my SD card along with the Homebrew Channel elf file in the root of the SD card. I just ran the zelda hack and installed the channel by doing what the prompt told me to do. Once I had the channel installed I just put these apps as is onto the root of the card and booted up the channel. It loaded all of the apps in the channel and allowed me to pick what I wanted to do. Had I put everything onto the SD card all at once, the whole process would have been a 2minute job. Because I did the hack first, then went on to putting the homebrew onto the SD card, there was unnecessary going back and forth between the PC and console.

Yup, the only requirements for this is Zelda and an SD card. There's a couple of issues with some of the emus not loading roms but that's a problem with the emulators not the channel. They've really done a great job of making it all really slick.
Yeah skynet that Gecko region free should indeed let you load up any region games on your wii, I haven't tested it myself but I've heard good things.

I assume it won't work with GC games though correct?

Don't be so humble souLLy.

It should be known that souLLy did the design work on the Homebrew Channel.

Alrighty - I've installed all of it, and will give it a go later.

I'm not sure who's in charge of the wiki for wiibrew.org, but someone really ought to adjust the instructions for the Twilight Hack to show you how to backup your real TP save (if possible) before installing the hack. I was somewhat disappointed to realize that all of my real game progress was gone when I loaded up the game.

Being that I still know absolutely nothing about the Wii file structure, I don't know if it's possible to backup the save or not.

:P well i only did the graphics for the intro animation and the logo, all of the other graphics whilst running the channel were done by other people.

I'm just waiting for a Wii Media Centre now with support for usb hard drives...

I don't quite understand what this does... you install the channel, and does it let you install things from inside of it? Or does it essentially automate the TP hack?

You would need to copy the TP save to your SD card first. Go into Wii settings then into the memory manager and copy it to your SD card. Once you've got your SD card connected to your PC you can either copy it to your PC HDD somewhere, or just another location on the SD. You will need to find out what the folder name is, mine was something like "private\wii\title\RZDP" on the SD card. Backup the folder that corresponds to your region and then just restore it to that location once you've done the hack. A bit late with that info I guess though.

As for the channel, great work soully. Looks real nice and fits in with the others really well :D KUDOS!

Basically, it's an application launcher. It looks for homebrew apps on your SD card and waits for commands over wifi from your Windows, Mac, or Linux box. You can launch stuff either way.

I installed it on my drivechipped Wii from the ISO. I can't imagine it being any easier. Burn the ISO, put it in, press the button, and it reboots with the channel installed. So easy to use! And if you don't want it anymore, removal is the same thing as for any other Wii channel.
It's thinking...

I'm hoping that MAME gets better for Wii... that "light gun" support is added with a calibration tool (like HotDII/III has on Wii), and that Point Blank 1, 2, and Police Trainer work out just fine on the system.

It seems feasible yeah?

I absolutely love light gun games, and from what I've read it seems the Wiimote can function as an actual gun, it's just the developers that need to implement it correctly. For example, in RE:UC, using any type of gun add on gets you a different way to hold the gun, but the sights don't match up. On HotD remake, they map it so the sights line up perfectly and it functions like a legitimate light gun.

Something like this is definitely needed in an era where traditional light guns don't work!

...oh yeah, the Wii Zapper sucks.... check *this* out for a real light gun :D

You could get it from here cheaper and with free shipping. I've ordered quite a bit from this site. It takes about 9 days or so to get to AU from the time I put through a payment to the time I get it. Place this ~r.44128597 after the SKU if you'd like to give me one referral point which really doesn't get anything but cheap chinese freebies.

erm, I downloaded the released version from http://hbc.hackmii.com/ with the filename "the_homebrew_channel-beta_7-iso-USA.tar.gz" and what I got is exactly what's in the video, with the command line and all...

when you install it yes, but not once it's installed and the channel graphics are different the water fills up the screen. That's a pre-release demo I think
