Anyone have a 360 wireless adapter

Post by JuddWack »

I'm moving at the end of the month and was thinking I may have to buy one of these. I doubt the landlord would allow me to run a cable to my room from the modem. Hopefully she will let me move the modem to my room :) Anyway, do they work well? I may have no alternative.

ive got one, works great. Friend gave it to me, so I was a lucky SOB. You can get em cheaper on ebay than in stores i believe. Also if you pick up the original xbox wireless adapter it works with the 360 and is only like 30 bucks. Your last alternative is to pick up a lnksys router and flash the firmware to turn it into a wireless adapter for all your consoles/computers. I did it for a friend, and its amazing.

Well I'd definitely like to have an older uglier adapter from the original xbox for less than half the price, but does it work just as good?

I never bought one either. $100 for an adapter that should have been integrated into the system from the start seems like a ridiculous price to me no matter how nice of an adapter it is.

Yeah I was shocked when I saw the price. I thought it would be more like 30-40. 50 max.

I think you can use almost any ethernet to wireless adapter, and I've also been told a hand up of usb ones work. It'd probably be a lot cheaper to get a sort ethernet cable and hook it up to one of those adapters.

Yeah, a wireless bridge is the much cheaper, and more versatile solution.

No usb ones work. None. Only the MS one, you'd need an Ethernet bridge.

So an ethernet bridge will work just as well, can be used for other things and is cheaper? I guess I'll try that then.

I don't know how much ethernet bridges are now a days.

However, you can get a linksys wrt54g (or another outer compatible) and put a 3rd party firmware on to do the same thing plus more.

I currently have 2 wrt54g's bridged, router is in one room plugged into cable modem... other router is plugged into pc, 360, and xbox. Works great. Hit me up if you go this route, i can help.

Well it looks like the router they have here sucks so I'm going to have to spend the coin and get a better one. It only transfers at 11Mbps. On the bright side I don't think running a wire will be a problem.
