Re: Golden Axe Remake DC
Okay, utunnels released a new build of OpenBoR-DC yesterday. He moved the file cache to VRAM and we got at least three MBytes more RAM to work with.
Also he and SumolX worked on the renderer a lot during the past days. They managed to improve performance by 50fps (!) compared to previous versions. It now runs at 149 fps on PSP.
- I tested it on Dreamcast and it seems that slowdowns in the Dreamcast port likely are a thing of the past.
You can download the latest builds from here: http://www.lavalit.com/index.php?board=2.0
(you will need to register before you can see + download the attachments)
- I will compile, test and upload a new version of Golden Axe Remake using the latest build asap

It looks like I'll be taking the Dreamcast out of the closet this year. Good work!

Re: Golden Axe Remake DC
This year is going to be one of the best years for the DC.
R4, Donk and Dynamite Dreams are coming. (Commercial releases) and there have already been a lot of homebrew releases.

Pardon me for asking, but when will the fixed version of this game be ready for download?

Re: Golden Axe Remake DC
The version I downloaded had some fun in it, but it was largely inferior to the genesis version.

One is a homebrew remake, the other is a commercial game.Calavera wrote:How so? I haven't tried it yet, just wondering.BILAL_XIA wrote:The version I downloaded had some fun in it, but it was largely inferior to the genesis version.
It really is as simple as that.

Would it make sense if I said it lacked blast processing?Calavera wrote:How so? I haven't tried it yet, just wondering.BILAL_XIA wrote:The version I downloaded had some fun in it, but it was largely inferior to the genesis version.
Golden Axe on Genesis starts in a really cool way with the clouds moving and the Golden Axe logo forming... well the BOR lacked that and other effects like this were either really simplified or removed.
On the plus side, you can select music from any version of the game, but graphically it is a step down.
Is it to much to expect from a homebrew game to exceed nearly a 20 year old game in terms of quality?DCDayDreamer wrote:One is a homebrew remake, the other is a commercial game.Calavera wrote:How so? Dreamcast:
Personally I think the SegaCD version is the best official port of GA to a home console. It's essentially identical with the Mega Drive version but with the added bonus of the remastered arcade sound track as red book audio.
I hope it won't take me long to get back to this.Superstrider wrote:Pardon me for asking, but when will the fixed version of this game be ready for download?

Re: Golden Axe Remake DC
How do you expect a twenty year old game that has it's data ripped and added into a different game engine (primarily DOs) to be improved in any way without alteration?.BILAL_XIA wrote:Is it to much to expect from a homebrew game to exceed nearly a 20 year old game in terms of quality?DCDayDreamer wrote:One is a homebrew remake, the other is a commercial game.

You'll have to try a BOR site.
DC Emu is nothing more than a message board at the moment.
