My fault or the DC's?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

My fault or the DC's?

Post by mog123 »

I just bought a DC, wanted to burn out SNES4All. I downloaded the plain files, and selfboot. Opened Selfboot and it yells that there's no IP.BIN File. So I downloaded some other emulator that had it and used that one. Then i Burned it using diskjuggler. But all I get is a messgae: Please put game disk in. I have a PAL HKT-3030
What's the problem? The DC or the IP.BIN File?

Hi there.
You should be using BootDreams for the easiest image creation using plainfiles.
It "fixes" most things automatically. (Scrambling / Unscrambling), adding an IP.BIN, etc...etc...
and you can also add a dummy file, which saves on the DC's laser.
Get it here: http://dchelp.dcemulation.org/?BootDreams

Let us know if you need further help.

I actually just tried bootdreams. the sad part is, it doesn't go after the sega, consolevision logo. So, does that means my laser is almost dead?

Does your DC still boot original GD-ROMs? If not, your GD-ROM drive has a problem.
Does it boot any other software from a CD-R? If so, you're selfbooting SNES4All wrong.
Have you tried both the data-data and audio-data methods? Some DCs only accept one of these methods.

A good way to test is using selfboot images from DCEvolution, although all images I got from there used the data-data method.

Instead of using DiskJuggler you should use BootDreams' CDRecord GUI.

OK, another malfunction i found out about. I'm using an antenna (A/V) instead of an RGB, I have video and colour, but no Sound (well actually it's something like kshshshshsh)
Is it the cable or the DC?
Cause i get to read the music(Audio CD), the tracks play and finish and jump at the right time, but i don't hear anything except for the kshshshsh. So that means the laser's good?

You definitely need to get rid of that RF/antenna cable. I recommend a VGA box.

I know this may be stirring up an old pot, but isn't DreamSNES still the better program?

Used it, with the Data/Data method, didn't work. It hangs up on the "Produced by Sega" screen.

It's definitely the laser, cause when i put the console on its side (vent holes up) it doesnt react. Can someone tell me how to do the DC laser calibration trick? all the websites with it are dead.
