Those who believe it is wrong for older women to bear children need to get in step with a society that is living longer, a 60-year-old woman who gave birth to twins this week said Thursday on TODAY.
“It's wonderful. It's wonderful,†Frieda Birnbaum, who delivered healthy baby boys on Tuesday, said during a live interview from a New Jersey hospital. Birnbarm is believed to be the oldest woman ever to give birth to twins in the U.S.
“I think those people need to get ready for what's coming up in our society. Whenever there's anything new, people cannot comprehend or have difficult getting comfortable," she said. "There are a lot of middle-aged women [having babies]  40s, 50s, now I just turned 60. That's going to be acceptable. They have to just keep up with what's going on with society.â€Â
Whats wrong with this? A 60 year old will most likely be a better parent then a 18-24 yo. She has experienced so much and can pass that along to the kid.
Experience is great and all, but she will most likely be dead before the kids are 20. Now thats quite a bit of deprivation of time spent with parents that a normal child would have.

It kind of sucks when your mom is in a wheel chair, when you're ten, and can't do normal mom things. Thats why people have kids from 18-40.
I consider that in the middle aged bracket, but just barely. 45-63ish is where I put it. I'd say a traditional bracket is 40-60 though (child = 0-18, adult 19-40, middle aged, 40-60, elderly 61+). There's such a huge variance of what people are like in their early 60s though, it is hard to call it exactly.

Hard to be a better parent when you're dead. Too many bad health things creep up in your 60s. It's funny. People are living longer, yes. But on the flip-side more people are having heart attacks in their 40s because of the modern world's fast-paced and unhealthy lifestyle.

Thats pretty much the first thing I thought of. There is a pretty good chance the childs parents will be dead or unable to care for them before they reach 18. Being 60 with a child is one thing, but being 75 with a 15 year old teen is going to be another. It never did mention how old the father was? I would assume he would be the same age if not older as the women?

I don't remember the exact odds, but cases of Down's Syndrome become like 1 in 5 or 6 in the 50s. I have no clue what happens at 60, but it's probably pretty awful. If it works out like other things, overall intelligence and capability, is on the average lower as well, even if they come out healthy.

Living 60 years doesn't necessarily mean you've learned anything either. Fuck, she thinks it's cool for 60 year old women to start popping out ankle biters. That should tell you something about her "experience" to begin with.
Basing someone's likely aptitude on their age is just plain wrong.
Not to mention that in the "18-24 yo." bracket, all of their experience with parenting is relatively fresh, so they should be just as good or better.
