yeah this sucks, im glad I never got any of this, now it'll be more confusing for americans to tell between asian and hispanic and then crack on asians for crossing 'the border' because of their american eye shape

this is as evil as male circumcisioin

The only reason Stormwatch has a problem with circumcision is because he had one go wrong, otherwise I'm sure he wouldn't even think about it. The same goes for other plastic surgery here, it's only bad in a way when it goes horribly wrong.

Surely you can see the difference between a baby having his foreskin chopped off by his parents without even thinking about their child's future wishes, and an adult deciding "I want eyelids"?

IIRC, his circumcision did not went wrong. The problem is that they circumcised him without his consent, when they were supposed to perform another type of surgery.

Yeah, I can understand having surgery to make your eyes be symmetrical. Asymmetry in the eyes is very... Distracting, I guess, on people.

I've just always thought the whole eyelid alteration to make themselves look more "western" is fucked up. I get the impression that it is actually rarer now than it once was, but still.

I also have to note that in Hong Kong at least, very "asian" looking people don't seem to make it as often as less "asian" looking people in pop culture. The more popular people typically have less round faces, less pronounced epicanthal folds, etc. Just a general observation, I dunno if it is an overall trend or not. This seems to have been particularly true in the past 10-15 years.

But then again, of course, the #1 Hong Kong actor of all time, Chow Yun-Fat, is *very* Chinese looking.
