Phantasy Star Universe $9.99

Post by Nico0020 »

At Amazon right now, on a deal carrying over from yesterday, they are selling PSU for 360 and ps2 for $9.99. Even if you dont plan to play online, thats a sweet deal just for the story mode. And if you have a 360 a download content expansion is coming this fall/winter for 30 bucks. So if you were ever interested in getting this game I suggest u buy it while its still up.

Interesting. Last I heard the expansion was just a rumor, but that's great that it's gonna be a download and not a PSOv2 style expansion (where you have to buy the whole damn game again).

Hopefully the expansion will be enough for me to want to resubscribe; I was sick of the game in less than a month after I got it. Meanwhile, I've been playing PSO since early 2001 and I'm still not tired of it, and it's only 1/4 of what PSU is. Why is that?

Sega finally announced Ambitions of Illumines for the states about a month back. PS2 and PC will apparently have to buy a disk, while 360 gets it as a marketplace download. They are adding a lot of PSOish elements back into the game. But as far as why it got boring? I am not sure but I have heard a lot of people say that.

I just checked the Wikipedia article. It just sounds like more of the same, but I'll check it out. It all depends on how much space the expansion will require though, at this point I'm only able to free up about 2.0gb without intruding on stuff I really don't want to get rid of. I still have my PS2 version of the game, so if needed I'll be the expansion for PS2. Might be better that way anyway unless more people on the 360 version invest in a keyboard.

wow, thats a lot of space used up. Did u download a lot of marketplace videos?

I am still on about 8 gig's left. Though im going to download the oblivion expansion soon which takes up about a gig, and ill expect PSU to do the same.

So far my main big filesize items are

about 5 or 6 xbox live arcade games
PSU and dead rising demo
All the Halo 2/perfect dark/Kameo download content
Maybe about a gig or 2 of videos also.

The only thing that would probably have me go and get the bigger HDD is if I started playing FF11 as that takes up like 6 Gig doesnt it?

I'm not sure what's taking up all my space. I want to say maybe music CDs, but there's no way to tell since it doesn't tell you how much space they take up total. I'll have to clean some out this weekend that I don't listen to anymore. Other than that, I have two marketplace videos and 12 arcade games.

Also...... check it. Is that a flying De Rol I see starting at 2:45? I also see some Boomas in a forest-like level. Could they be remaking the original PSO levels? I think I'm actually excited for this now.

yes there is a remake for forest and a de rol le boss. PSO costumes have been added to buy along with PSO weapon remakes. custom "mags". a lot of stuff is being added that should have been there in the beginning. Grass asasians have also made an appearance again.

OH MY GOD. FOREST.

If they remade the other three levels at some point, I would declare PSU the best game ever. Hell, even make a city based on the P2. I think that's really my problem with this game, it's just bland. It needs more color and more interesting levels.

Shit, they even have the forest music there. Awesome!

This is definitely a start. Maybe if this receives a big reaction from the fans they'll bring back more PSO stuff or create new PSO-ish material.

though on a side note. In the new story mode that is going to be in the expansion, you dont play as ethan. You apparently play as your own character and ethan is just another character in the game. Im not sure if that means it is online characters u apply to it, or you have to do it in an extra mode setting.

I say jump on it anyway. If more of you guys played PSU, I would definitely play it, and I'm thinking about resubscribing since I finish school tomorrow. Think about it, for the price of a new release Xbox 360 game, you can buy PSU and pay for five months. That's not a bad deal, it's a huge game and if you meet the right people, it can last forever.

My problem? I didn't play long enough to meet anyone and I got tired of teaming up with random players only out for themselves. The community seems to be more of an MMORPG community rather than a social community like PSO had. But if you guys go for it, I'd love to.

Yeah, I quit. PS2.

I didn't mean to say if it *looks* good. I meant to say tell me if it is good.

Wow. The fact that they're remaking Forest with the original music has me interested. That was the best level and one of the two best tuns from the original PSO.

I played the PSU demo, and was kind of dissapointed. Where PSO was just "Choose ship > chat for a bit > list games > join one" PSU just had me feeling like "Ok....what now?" after I left my characters house. Big game, no direction. And it also eliminated the social aspect that PSO had. 50 people bundled up in the small ship room chatting away,

Anyway, questions.

- Is the population in this game plentiful? This is important, please dont exaggerate. The last 5 or so games someone assured me "had lots of people playing" turned out to be barren wastelands where your spending 20-40 minutes looking for a joinable game or LFG-ing.
- Is it still $15 for 3 months?
- Did they keep that flawless "select game to join" lobby system that PSO had, or do I have to LFG?

- The PC and PS2 versions have tons of people.......and plenty of idiots. You'll be glad the lobbies aren't bunched together like with PSO, because there's more idiots than PSO. You know, the type that shortcut ascii porn to a keyboard button and tape the key down. The 360 version is more manageable I've noticed. It doesn't have as many people, but you'll always find someone to play with. The people that play the 360 version seem to be more serious about the game. The chat-spammers just choose the trial version instead. And yes, I have both the PS2 and 360 versions, I've played on both servers, so I'm speaking from personal experience.

The only problem I've noticed with the 360 version is that lobby chat is more rare. You have to use a keyboard, or the on-screen keyboard to talk, so the lobbies can be rather silent at times. Hopefully this will change when the keyboard controller comes out. Even though you can use any standard USB keyboard to talk, apparently many are not aware of this yet. You can only use the headset to talk once you're in a party.

- $15 for three months? I've never heard of this. I think the PS2 and PC versions give you a few free weeks when you first subscribe, but I've never heard of the deal you mentioned.

- YES, you select a game. However, it's not like PSO where you can find people playing all levels of the game on one game selection menu. Each lobby in PSU has its own missions. You go to the mission counter and you can select a game to join, but once that mission is over, you're either returned to the same lobby or you advance on to the next lobby to play the next mission if applicable. However, you'll still remain in your party from the last mission, so if you manage to partner up with some cool people you can still play with them as long as they don't quit the game or go into the start menu and click leave party.

Hmm. Sounds good, but I think I'm gonna pass on it. I prefer doing "f1 to falz" type things as opposed to set missions, and the fact that I pay $30 for WoW/Vanguard and my XBLive fee, I dont need another game siphoning my cash.
