Controller on a USB Cable

Post by gwar3k1 »

Is it possible / has it been done, to swap the dreamcast controller cable for a USB one, so I can use it on my PC? Are there driver's if its been done already?

I've searched google, perhaps not hard enough if there is a solution already.

Try searching for a "Joybox 3-in-1" It's a product that converts Dreamcast, Playstation or Saturn controllers to standard USB gamepads. The Joybox doesn't work well with specialty controllers, though.

Yeah that's the thing, I was hoping to be able to do a mod to save some cash. If not, I'll just pick up a 360 controller.

Anymod would be more hassle and more expensive than buying one. Its not as easy as just splicing wires. You would have to use a microcontroller and the such

The joystick doesn't work well even with official controllers on the 3 in 1 box.

Or get a 360 controller and you don't even need to stick a USB connector on the end of it.

Actually, i was curious about just the opposite. i'd like to use a USB device on my DC. is that possible? i have the PS2 Trance Vibrator for REZ (never rleased for the DC) but it's USB and I'm wondering if it's possible to use it on the DC REZ. The big problem is that REZ for the DC only recognizes one controller port. so, i guess, it's not possible.

I have no idea if this is possible or even worth it, but could it be hooked up by memory expansion slot in the controller if only one of your controller ports is working?

You need the DC Mable Bus or a micrcontroller emulating for any device to work on the DC. The next option is to directly map one controller onto an old DC controller.

i asked about that on these boards YEARS ago. i had the exact same thought. i have no idea what the DC mable bus is. i'd like to try it though. i wonder if doing that would blow the controller port though? could one port handle that much?

I not saying its impossible to do that but..... I would be very very surprised if it was possible. As far as I know the memory card slots can only send data to the DC when it requests it, so unless you write a game specifically to do it, I doubt it will work. The DC can send data though. You could possibly by pass this though as it is done on the controller side but you would.........

naw, its not gonna happen.
