What mods/repairs have you done?

Post by Roofus »

I've done the LED mod and replaced the controller resistor, <plug>In fact, I wrote a FAQ about it</plug>. Everyone who's done a mod or repair, reply to this topic, even if someone else has done the same one.

I've:
Broken and repaired a few GDroms.
Made a 'custom' AV connector for a DC with a broken AV socket
Painted a DC
Added another fan to a DC
Silenced many VMUs by removing beeper
Added external power to a VMU

I think that's about it.

I've changed my + some friends LED's, fixed the reset problems because of the DC overheating, soldered the battery back onto the controller PCB (When I broke it off accidently doing LED mod) and attempted to get my DC force run in PAL 60Hz, but was only able to get the DC running at a 50Hz NTSC mode :/

First... replaced my blown resistor on the controllerboard.
then did the LED mod (to blue)
Then I put a white LED under the lid of the GDrom... that was switched on when the lid was opened.
Modified the switch for that...
took it back apart... and put it back together with two white LEDs instead of one
Added a white LED to a mad catz controller that shines on the VMU screen. (its not too great actually)
I'm in the process of texturing and painting my case...

I am looking for a 3.x volt green LED to replace my blue one... I've only been able to find 2.x volt so far...
My old Sig was broken. Enter the new Sig!

Blue LED mod,
Built VGA box,
Tried (and failed) to get 60Hz output,
Made custom AV lead with a 9 way D connector (I have fitted this connector to all my consoles to make using different machines easy)

However, if we are talking non DC related:

Repaired 2x SNES
Killed 1x SNES
50/60Hz & Multi region 3x SNES
50/60Hz 1x SNES
50/60Hz 3x Megadrive
50/60Hz & Multi region 2x Saturn
Repaired & then killed 1x Saturn
Hacked AV SCART lead to RGB SCART lead for Xbox
Drink your weak lemon drink now!

I silenced one of my VMUs, only I didn't think to include it because it was accidental. After downloading and playing DreamSNES for the first time though, I'm seriously considering silencing the other one (on purpose this time.)

you replaced the gdrom with a cdrom? i think my laser died, it doesn't read cd's anymore. we discussed this in the other thread, the dc doesn't see anything. i tired cleaning, and tried adjusting the pot, but still can't get it to run anything. if i could replace the gdrom laser assembly with a cdrom, i would know once and for all if it's really my laser that died, which seems to be the problem.

i don't want to be a pain in the left buttock, but is there a place where i can get a guide or something on how to do that? did you find a cd player that had the same ribbon cable or something? i could get my hands on pc cdrom units for parts easily, if it would work. i really would like to have this dc working again, even if it means it looks like a mess of parts.
woof.

Diabolus, as much as I'd like to help you, I really can't. Unless you're a ?bertech like myself or I@N, and you possessed all of the tools of a ?bertech (multimeter, breadboard, high-quality soldering iron, etc), it really isn't possible. Additionally, I don't even know what model of CD player I got the laser from, so you'd have to have a virtually exact match. To be honest, I'm suprised that it worked as is.

I didn't realise we were talking about other consoles as well.

In that case I have

60Hz modded a master system
60Hz modeed two megadrives (the first two generations), but I need to build an RGB cable
Added a green LED to a megadrive
Added dual power switches to a megadrive plus internal power supply. 1.5 hours of mobile gameplay running on 4x750mAh cheap NiCads :D

hmmm...

DC blown controller port fix

SNES - highly technical SFC cart mod :p

Genesis - first generation- language switch mod and LED change

NES - Half completed "turn the toaster into a top load" Mod
( I gotta get this one finished)

NES - Cart connector repair

NES - The Convertable "Slam it so hard the front door falls off" Mod

I would love to figure out how to make your own Super8 for SNES, but thats gonna take some serious IC and electronic know-how :)
