Got Last Hope today

Post by UndeadDC »

It's pretty cool, a little too much like the R-Type games for my taste though. Still the graphics are top notch, and the music is good enough I wish I had ordered the LE version so I could have gotten the soundtrack. Now if only someone would make a shooter modeled after Lords of Thunder.

Lords Of thunder is the shit! I have the Sega CD version which wasn't nearly as good as the PCE version but the music and gameplay is what made L.O.T kick ass.

If one of my friends gets Last Hope I'd like to try since you stated it's like Rtype and I happen to be a R-type fan.
Have you played dreamcast today?

I've posted my impressions from the first hours playing the game here. It's really great and a lot like Pulstar or Last Resort in my opinion.

Btw, if you want the soundtrack you could just use Nero to rip the Audio tracks (or whatever other program capable of converting CDDA to WAV/MP3) and make your own soundtrack CD. (Yeah, I ordered the standard version too since the LE already was sold out >_< )

I disagree, I'm a bit underwhelmed. Last Hope is cool, but fails in some points. Christuserloeser talked about the good things already, I'll talk about the bad things.

The ship always feels underpowered, the pod does not damage the enemies, the respawn points are too distant from each other (I'd rather have instant respawn), and the whole pacing of the game is too slow. There are some nice visual effects, flying close to water or sand gives a "wake" effect. But they overdid the enemy ships' debris, sometimes you don't know what's junk and what's enemy fire. The boss animation and explosions are also weak.

The OST of the Limited Edition will have a better sound quality and track length than you will find on the game disc by the way.

I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed at first also, but the more I play it the more I like it. It makes me think of the old 16bit days with my SNES, back when I actually enjoyed buying new games. The enemies and bosses could have been a little more creative. However, it's still a fun game, and if I had it to do over again I would still buy it. Personally I'm looking forward to what NG dev Team do in the future. They can only get better. Maybe they'll change their name to DC dev team instead :P

Does anyone know if you can buy the soundtrack CD sepperately?

I think not. But you can put the game in a regular CD player.

The hardest side scroller I have ever played. I average 45 seconds of screen time before death by bullet. I look forward to the gameshark codes. I do hope someone is working on them. I do not understand why easy level can not be easy. The games looks and feels great, but is too hard for my tastes. I do like invincibility, so as to experience the game and not die every 45 seconds.

I'm still trying to find a limited edition. If I cant get one I'm just gonna buy the AES neogeo cart for like 500 pounds.

So I got a chance to play it and I must say arcade mode is much better than DC mode. At first you might think its harder because theres more explotions but honesty its about the same difficulty and it keeps more active so you pay better atention.
