MAME4ALL alpha2

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

MAME4ALL alpha2

Post by Juan »

Chui just released a new version of this port of MAMEGP2X; here's what he says about it:
Chui @ DCIberia (partially translated) wrote:As a xmas present, I bring you the latest version of MAME4ALL with the following additions:

- FAZE Z80 core (finally).
- Latest FAME M68K core.
- Q-Sound support in CPS1 games.
- Full support for ArcadeSticks.
- Same fixes and updates as the latest MAMEGP2X versions.

To sum it up, there's a good speed boost; it's worth giving it a shot.

Mame4All Alpha 2

Post by retroman9999 »

Chui: Just burnt and tried Alpha 2. Nice improvement over Alpha 1 (which was a great release!!!). Many games that didn't work now work, and the speed is better. This is by far the best MAME EMU for the good old Dreamcast. Thanks CHUI for this great Christmas gift!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Much thanx to Chui! He is one of the few people that actually DO something for the scene, instead of just talk.... well anyway i have a question:
I tried 2 of my favourite games Black Tiger (Black Dragon) and Magic Sword and i noticed absolutely no difference in speed or sound compared to the alpha1.
Could anyone givie me an advice about the settings? Should i change something to boost peformance?

I use Frameskip = Auto and everything else set to 100%. Works great with most games. :)

I think the difference is mostly on CPS1 games.

There is a good difference in all the games... TMNT for instance doesn't slow down when there are a lot of characters on screen.

I can't get 4 players to work though.

And instead of having to put credits in, I hope in the future there is a version with the dipswitches automatically set to "Freeplay". No point in having it in any other way, seeing as we DO want to play the games. And I think freeplay still allows the attract demos to play.

Christuserloeser that list was never updated

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=23300

that list is not anywhere near complete, and is only based on alpha one, but still better than nothing

I know, I was just pointing to the fact that these games are supported by MAME4ALL, where Ultimate MK3 isn't.

Anyway, I've tested my way through the entire set and I am aware that about 800/1000 do work perfectly, where 100 won't run at all and another 100 do work but but with some problems on video emulation or controls.
Then there are 250 duplicated games (either different regions or different ROM sets) and 200 more games that aren't worth your time nor the space on CDR they need. Leaves 400 games that do run perfectly with MAME4All, all beeing well worth your time.

I've compiled a little manual for MAME4ALL starters to post at DCS:

-Emulator-
  • Insert Coin: Analog Right
  • Pause: Analog Left
  • Reset Current Game: Analog Up
  • Return to ROM Selection: Analog Left (hold for about 1,5 sec)
-ROM Selection-
  • Browse: D-pad Up/Down
  • Skip Pages: L/R-Trigger
  • Choose Game: A- or START-Button
  • Return to Main Menu: Analog Left (hold for about 1,5 sec)
-Options-
  • Highlight Setting: D-Pad Up/Down
  • Change Highlighted Setting: D-Pad Left/Right
  • Start Emulation: A- or START-Button
  • Back to Main Menu: B-Button
-Recommend Settings-
  • Video: Fixed [Fastest + most accurate]
(Choose HW Scaled for full screen)
  • Frame-Skip: Auto
  • Video Clock: 100%
  • Video Sync: Off
  • Sound: Accurate and ON [Slowest but most accurate]
(Turn OFF to improve emulation speed)
  • Audio Clock: 100%
These also were the settings I used for testing.

if mame4all ported from mame 0.72 so why doesn't it work? when even my 0.68 version supports it.

just tested this emulator today... for the life of me i can't get two players working.

on the second controller, i press "analog right" to insert a coin, but that does not do anything.

pressing "analog left" on the second controller pauses the screen.

is there anything i'm doing wrong?
