QuakeDC - Manoel "Fragger" Kasimier Edition
Right on time for the 10th anniversary of id Software's Quake, DCEvolution.net's second Xmas 2006 release represents the ultimate Quake package for your Dreamcast:
Play the original Shareware Version of Quake or fight your way through more than 300 Deathmatch maps against bots.
Using an enhanced version of QuakeDC, ported by Titanium Studios (Stupid Invaders), it offers everything you'd expect from a commercial Dreamcast game:
With its VMU and VGA support, high resolution graphics at 640x480, light and transparency effects and the full original soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails it basically plays and looks like Quake III Arena.
A release of this quality is only possible thanks to Manoel "Fragger" Kasimier (nxMakaqu), who has been working on polishing, improving and enhancing QuakeDC since 2001. This compilation finally features all of his fantastic work on one huge disc!
For more info about this release, printable covers and the download check out this website.
Be sure not to miss yesterday's Xmas release: The Sandman - Dreamcast Demo Disk Vol.1
The DCEvolution.net Team wishes everyone some nice and quite days!
Insane homebrew collector.

Wow great work! Took a long while, but it's been worth the waiting.
So did you actually get the offical permission from NiN to use the music?Wow!
I wish I could have done more for this project, my involvement is not really worth mentioning, but it's nice to see my name at the credits though
EDIT: The dcevo servers seem to be slow atm, I only get ~10kb/s...

While it's downloading, may I ask some questions ?
Can you choose between using HexQuake, nxQuake and the original QuakeDC. If yes how is it done? Did you use the usual Sega Magazine demo menu?

Hiya, cool xmas gift! N00b here so bear with me:
Do I need the registered Quake pak to play mods or expansion packs like Scorge Of Armagon with this release?
Also, is there a comprehensive list of mods that will actually work with this release or do I have to just try them out and hope for the best?
Thanks and may the Dreamcast reign well into the next decade!

Well, you could use DreamInducer with HexQuake (I guess - it's binhacked) and nxQuake, but of course the USDM menu would have looked much better for this purpose.Moi wrote:Can you choose between using HexQuake, nxQuake and the original QuakeDC. But no: It's HexQuake in it's full glory. No original QuakeDC (wouldn't have made too much sense anyway, except to see how it looked before Fragger made HexQuake/JoyMenu).
As for nxQuake: I think nxMakaqu deserves its own compilation
I am not sure with SOA, but in general you don't need the Registered PAK1.PAK to play some mods or TCs.skroooagh wrote:Do I need the registered Quake pak to play mods or expansion packs like Scorge Of Armagon with this release?
SOA is said to run perfectly. Aside from that I would recommend nxMakaqu for mods. It's much more optimized than QuakeDC and looks about as good (using e.g. 640x240 mode). Also, is there a comprehensive list of mods that will actually work with this release or do I have to just try them out and hope for the best?

Dream Inducer won't load anything beside KOS programs and the like, unlike USDM boot loader which should load both.Christuserloeser wrote:Well, you could use DreamInducer with HexQuake (I guess - it's binhacked) and nxQuake, but of course the USDM menu would have looked much better for this purpose.

Well TDA told me once not to make it public, but you actually can start QuakeDC using demomenu and its unscrambled mode.
