Now I remember why I got a GameCube at launch...
Everything looked so promising...
... too bad so many things were cancelled, delayed indefinately, or abandoned.
I realize those are all synonyms, but nevertheless, in 2000 the GameCube seemed like it was going to have a ton of awesome games and be a great follow up to the N64.
In retrospect, it had some great games, but could have been much better.
... still waiting to see how Zelda turns out, I remember that SpaceWorld demo, and still want to see a battle like that between Link and Gannon.

Well you know I have to say it, anybody that watched that first video knows I have got to say it.
IT showed Zelda and it wasn't toon shaded Link either! You don't show off a bunch of actual titles for a game system then claim they was just "Tech Demos"
I ddin't know there was a Kameo game for Gamecube? I had never heard of the series till I seen the Xbox title.

I've got to say the same. I got one at launch because it honestly looked like Nintendo would be releasing a ton of great games and there would be killer 3rd party support.
But...it just didn't happen. A number of Nintendo titles really dissapointed me , most 3rd party games ended up on other systems with more content, and all that support dried up pretty quickly.
Nintendo themselves didn't even seem to support it as much as they could have done. The system didn't come out here til May 02, and after Xmas 04 most stores were beginning to drastically cut-down on Gamecube shelfspace. These days a little stand with the Top 5, a few sale items, and some preowned stuff is the most you'll get. Non-specialist gaming stores havent stocked it in ages.
Hell, one of the largest electrical chains in Europe planned to ditch Cube stocks just 9 months after launch
It wasn't the worst system ever, but it definitely failed to turn my hopes into reality, made less of an impact than I thought it would, and is the cause of me being so cautious about Wii.

Since Rare used to develop for Nintendo, they originally slated the game for GameCube -- this was in the year 2000, which means the game was probably in development in early 2000, or even 1999. Six entire years later the game was released on the 360 after delay... after delay... after delay... after delay.Veggita2099 wrote: I ddin't know there was a Kameo game for Gamecube? In a similar manner, Perfect Dark Zero was originally slated for a GameCube release as well -- which was one of my large reasons for getting a GC too.... unfortunately playing it on the 360 was not the most rewarding experience. The game relied way too much on Rambo-style shooting, as opposed to stealth that Goldeneye and the first PD relied on.
PD0 was essentially... go in, shoot everybody, do your tasks. Or, walk through this linear level completing 'missions' you didnt even know you were on while mowing down as many enemies as possible.
Funny how 8 or 9 years after Goldeneye has come out there isn't anything like it out anymore that combines stealth and shooting in a good way. Splinter Cell and MGS rely upon only stealth, and games like Halo/various other FPS's are just straightup shooters. WW2 games try to throw in missions, but as I said they lack the stealth element.
That's what truly made GoldenEye and PD great... and unfortunately (from what I've seen) the feel and mix has never since been recreated successfully =\

MM, part of the problem is that the particular group of people responsible for those games isn't *with* Rare any more. Most of them quit several years back to form Free Radical, which developed the Timesplitters series. Kind of like how the original Castlevania team left Konami to form Treasure, or Mizuguchi left Sega to set up Q. The parent company still owns the rights to those franchises created by that team, but since the team that actually made it great isn't there any more, they can either take a different direction (Symphony of the Night), abandon the franchise (Space Channel 5), or hope that one of your other teams can imitate the style and quality of the original developers (which is usually not so successful--PD0).

That's a myth; Treasure is not the original CV team, or the original Contra team, or the original Gradius team, etc. . In fact I haven't seen any solid evidence that more than two of them were ever on a team together at Konami; AFAICT they were mostly scattered across various late NES and early Game Boy projects.DaMadFiddler wrote:Kind of like how the original Castlevania team left Konami to form Treasure

I will admit that the cube didn't get the games that made it the system "to have" however they were some fun titles for the system. You have to admit it was a hell of a lot better then 64, the 64 is a fun system though but the 64 had crappy smooth textures and horrid sound (zelda and castlevania are exceptions). I really thought the cube would do the best but I was wrong but to me its still better then the other 2.
People like ps2 due to RPGs and GTA, now personally I think RPGs died after the snes age because since then I haven't seen a good one that wow'd me. I think the GC hardware is awesome but the games that it could have had didn't ever see the light of day but still I love the cube and will miss it when wii comes out.

well that is their choice. I don't force anyone to read my posts. If that were true, pleast tell me what games outsold PSX titles. Even though PSX was definitely not my console of choice due to various reasons that I won't state due to a pending "flame war". So please, educate me on this statement, thanks.melancholy wrote:The Nintendo 64 was the greatest console ever created. So, no, I won't admit to that at all.

I <3 my Gamecube. Even if there wasn't a Super Mario 64 sequel. Out of the three current consoles, GC had the best and most fun games imho. PS2 had the extensive library and free online play, Xbox had the testosterone-filled action games and Xbox Live's unique multiplayer features, but GC had the most unique single player games. They didn't have to be shooting games, but they didn't have to be kiddy games either. And for some odd reason I really like the controller, it's just comfy. Maybe I'm the only one.
Now the Wii is a different story. I'm against everything the Wii has to offer except for Smash Bros. and the oldschool library.

I wouldn't say the greatest console, but maybe the greatest Nintendo console. I loved the platforming fad that went on with that system. It's a shame that there's no more good platforming games without guns and grenades (except for maybe Psychonauts, I haven't played that yet but I hear it's good).melancholy wrote:The Nintendo 64 was the greatest console ever created.
