Opera Browser to DS (official announcement)

Post by DaMadFiddler »

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/15/ds-we ... announced/
In a press conference scheduled to take place in Japan today, Nintendo announced that a non-firmware web-browser add-on from Opera and a 1Seg Digital TV Tuner add-on will be arriving for the DS in Japan. There's no word yet on bringing these add-ons to the West, though Reggie's hinted at it already.

The Opera software will release in June for roughly $32. Additional items of note include a May Japanese release date for New Super Mario Brothers (helloooo, import), a budget price for Tetris DS, the announcement of several games like Calligraphy Training DS and a cooking title, footage shown from Children of Mana and Xenosaga Episode 1-2, and "brief talk" concerning games such as Super Robot Wars, Dynasty Warriors, and Winning Eleven Nine (with the latter two titles getting Wi-Fi support).

Nice! One of my regrets is not getting a TV Tuner for my Game Gear, it's somethign I still want, even to this day, almost 10 years later. Hopefully this will make up the gap it left in my life.

Agreed. I wish I'd gotten one for mine, hopefully this will work great.

And with the touch screen with the stylus and Opera, it'll make surfing easier than with a PSP.

this is great news. it'll be kewl to surf the web down my girls hometown at Mickey D's while shes visiting her fam. And, the news about Mario Bros getting a better release date than what i seen recently makes me very happy. the last release date i seen was December 31st of this year. Hopefully it comes in May ,or at least June here.

I just sold my TV tuner here about a month ago for $30 shipped. AgentGreen was the lucky buyer.

Unfortunatley your TV tuners don't work in Au.

There were lots available on ebay in the past, but when I finally got around to wanting to bid on one they all dissapeared or were too expensive.

This one is currentlky at $65 with a buy it now of $95.

Why the DS Lite? I could have sworn you and Matisfaction both had a DS.

The DS Lite is the new and redesigned DS. They must have plenty of money and really like the new hardware.

Yes, but why spend another $150+ for a redesigned system you already have? Unless you trade or sell your current one, but still, you're gonna have to pay quite a bit of pocket money and the special features aren't worth it.

Read my post again because I edited it. The DS Lite just looks nicer. People buy things for that reason. People like having nice looking things.
