USB Dreamcast Controller

Post by Mechageo »

Hello all,

Is it possible to splice a USB cable on to the end of a Dreamcast controller cable for use in a PC, or would I need to solder some kind of USB gamepad chip inside somehow?

Thanks in advance.

You cant just plug something into a USB port. It requires special communication protocals and drivers on the PC side to operate. Unlike serial cables which just use analoge clock signals, USB uses digital signals to achieve a higher bandwidth. THis requires special hardware on both ends to work.

^ for you.
Seriously you would need to either make an adaptor outside or fenagle a chip to fit inside. Then you would have to write the software to tell the computer what each bit of data coming in actually means. So if you press the start button it would send a signal like 01110101011100 to the computer so in turn you would have to write software that translates 01110101011100 as "Start" then write more saying "Start" means ____. Time spent money spent all together you could buy 20 game pads till you find one you like.

That roofus and maybe a 2% stock interest in Microsoft.

Honestly, just do an xbox control mod. Baically the same thing, and had we had the DC for longer, we might have seen a controller with another stick anyways...

Can't do it. The DC controller to my knowlage uses a maple bus, not serial.
Just got with a xbox controller, or a 360 one; which already has a usb connection.

Try searching Lik Sang for an adaptor. If they don't have one. It isn't going to work

There is a DC controller -> USB converter. Take a look at Lik-Sand like mattthemodder suggested.
