How Much Should I Charge?

Post by pixel »

My family knows the co-owner of a promotions sales company in my town and I was recently recruited to do odds-and-ends for them. They had me take a photo and do some work on it for them. Now they're asking how much I want for my work and I have no idea. Maybe some of you with more experience with paid work can help me? To give a little insight on how they pay, they gave me $20 for sitting at computer for an hour showing them some features of Illustrator they were fuzzy about.

1-4 pictures at 100 each. 5-10 at 80 each. 11-20 at 65 each. Use that style as it works best.

I emailed my dad about it too. He's a commerical artist in my hometown and he said $100-150. I might go with that then. Thanks :D

It really depends on the company. I once charged $330 for a logo that the company ended up not even using. Said it wasn't 'corporate' enough, and instead went with a little blue wave with the company name beside it. It looked like sh*t compared to mine, but hey, I made $330

Well, the owner could afford a nice Chevy 2500 or whatever and lives on an acreage twenty minutes out of town. The actual office isn't very spectacular, but I'm sure they've got the money.
