My pc is overheating.

Post by Cyphix »

I am running a custom built PC, it has a P4 prescott 3.0EGhz, and it idles at about 49c and the load is 66c, and the ACPI is running at a constant 51c.

It has a Thermaltake Pipe101 heatsink with a panaflow 92mm fan, and Cremique Thermal Paste.. a case fan too ;o

I really dont understand, even with the case off it runs that fast :/

What could be the problem?

If it's overheating, you really should do something about it.

I've run PCs at much higher temps for 3 years straight... I wouldn't worry.

Experiment with different fan configurations, and you're bound to find one that hits the sweet spot.

:| :o id freak if my athlon got over 60 full load, and i did a good job keeping it below

my current cpu doesnt go over 45, go Athlon 64, my old sempron (90nm palermo core) wouldnt go over 40 with stock cooling

as for the presscot, if it even runs that high even with the case side off, i suggest checking the heatsink, 66 load is kinda hot

The prescott cores run hotter than your standard P4. Your temp's are a little high, but i wouldnt be to alarmed about it. if you are really worried about it, you could take some time to take the fans / hsf out and clean them, as well as make sure there is no dust in the case / on the mobo / etc. Since you would be removing the heatsink / fan, you will need to replace the thermal paste. you could get some Arctic Silver 5, its a lot better than the standard thermal pad / paste that come with most heatsinks, and can help lower temperatures further when applied correctly.

Shoot it in the leg and make it know you mean business.

Or, keep your case off and lots of fans.

That'll be more hassle in the longrun. DUST!!!

If you don't have fan filters and don't feel like ordering them, make them out of pantyhouse. Works well and it's cheap!
