Sarge leaves rifle on hill

Post by Hawq »

Yes a few days afetr a Sig Sauer was left behind in supermarket toilets by a dozy woman on exercises another guns gone missing, this time an SA80, so no cause for alarm then as it wont work if its a bit cold or warm or anywhere inbetween presumably
AN Army search was under way last night after a soldier lost his gun ? an SA80 assault rifle.
The Sergeant Major had been using the weapon, which fires 700 rounds a minute, during an exercise in the Brecon Beacons.

Military chiefs suspended the exercise and ordered all 900 troops to search for the 5.56mm automatic rifle which was loaded with 20 rounds of blanks.

But despite a 12-hour hillside hunt the rifle has still not been found.

The missing gun belonged to an Artificer Sergeant Major in charge of a 90-strong group of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
An insider said: ?The ASM handed the rifle to one of his juniors at a temporary command post while he went off to do some admin.

?When he got back the command post had moved and he couldn?t find his weapon.?

The Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police have now been called in. Civilian cops from the surrounding area of Dyfed Powys have also been alerted.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence said: ?We take all losses of weapons very seriously.?
source & these people are meant to make us feel safe?

See, this is why you never pass your weapon off to anyone when you've signed it out. You sling it when you eat or sh*t and cuddle up next to it in your sleeping bag or on your cot. I can't believe a SGM would do that, basic trainees learn better than that.
Need a Treamcast, Dreamcast modchip, HUGE DC memory card, ASCII-like DC fighter pad, or Saturn Gameshark with tons of backup memory? PM me.

Big deal. A single gun. Good luck to that guy trying to find ammo for it.

An assult rifle doesn't do much good when it has blanks in it. Try finding ammo for that calaber. Pretty difficult.

There's also ways of getting illegal guns in the UK.

I never said otherwise but I think a machine gun would fetch a nice price & the ammo would be available & if not found its gonna be trouble for someone

What caliber is the SA80 anyways? And you're calling it an assualt rifle so I'll assume it's a bit beyond the individual weapon, like say an M-16 or M-4 carbine. Is this an individual machine gun, something like an M249 SAW, or a heavier crew-served machine gun like an M240 or the old M60?

I wouldn't think ammo would be terribly hard to find, probably uses either standard NATO 5.56MM or "commie" 7.62MM ammo. If it's a heavier weapon, maybe .308 caliber, all readily (and cheaply) available. Hell you could get an ammo press and load a few hundred rounds yourself in an evening.

I doubt it's been ripped off and sold though. if I was out in the field and had a chance to "appropriate" an M4 with a grenade launcher or an M249/M240, I'd swipe it, dissassemble it, and send it home.

It's funny, but we were just mentioning this line at work the other day.

It uses 5.56 NATO, and is roughly comparable to the M16 in use.. Except that it's a bullpup, of course. It even has a similar history of malfunctions in early versions of it. SA80 and L85A1 are more or less the same thing.
