Is Soul Caliber incompatible with VGA?

Post by galbaldy »

Because I keep getting an error message telling me to switch to a different video cord.

And while we're on the subject, does the same thing apply for airforce delta and skies of arcadia? I'm getting the message as well.

Thanks.

Soul Calibur (PAL) works with VGA.

Both JAP and PAL (Deadly Skies) versions of Airforce Delta do not work with VGA.

Dunno about Skies of Arcadia or US versions of above.

SOA PAL doesn't work on VGA. Good thing I bought the US version. My Soul Calibur (PAL) also works in VGA.

I smell a list coming along:

"The list of DC games which have differing VGA compatibility between regions".

Try loading the game with codebreaker. It "unlocks" the game VGA mode capability.

Both SoulCalibur PAL and NTSC work perfect with my VGA Box. I haven't tested NTSC version...

There shouldn't be any difference between Japanese and North American releases as far as VGA compatibility go. The reason why there's sometimes a difference between the PAL and NTSC versions is because some Dreamcast games don't support RGB, but since RGB SCART is widespread in Europe, the PAL releases had to support RGB and apparently the easiest way to add RGB support to those games involved removing VGA support. I'm not sure why that would be, but it does seem to be.

Weird that some people's Soul Caliburs seem to work in VGA and others' don't, though. Could there a actually be different builds of the game in circulation? Wasn't there a Greatest Hits release of Soul Calibur? Mine works in VGA and was purchased in late 1999.

Discrepancies may lie in VGA cables vs VGA boxes.

Soul Calibur (US) works fine on my VGA Box.
