Window Mod

Post by soogazzi »

So I was bored yesterday and was looking at my pile of Dreamcast parts when it hit my, I could make a really nice window in my lid with my router. I used my router to make a perfect circle centered in the lid and then cut the plexi glass about 1/32? larger so that it would fit tight with no glue. I think it looks great. It took about 20 mins to do and about one hour to make the jig. Now I just have to paint it black and blue to match my Dreamcast and find a blue swirl sticker. Does anyone have one that they would trade? I?m thinking of putting blue led?s under the lid now.

Sorry about the huge pics. I plan on painting the rest of the lid to match my current paint job. The current paint job is the bottom pic. I will post pictures of the completed project.

Looks pretty damn good.

Um...guys, I think he ment he was going to paint the lid black to match the dreamcast in the picture. I'm guessing he's going to tape off the window, or just pull it out before painting.

I made a jig for my router so that I could mount it upside down with the bit sticking up. Then I drilled a hole in the jig to put a pin in the table for the lid to rotate on. Then I drilled a hole in the center of the lid. I rotated the lid into the bit to make a perfect circle. I did the same thing for the plexi but I made it slightly larger. This way the glass fits flush with the top and looks good. If you look at the backside of the lid, you will see the hole under the swirl. Last night I painted everything and put 3 led?s in the dimples under the lid. Tonight I should get some more led?s that I am putting behind the controller ports. Then I will reassemble and post some more pics.

She's all done now. I'm sorry but I just can not get a good enough picture
to do it justice. This thing looks 100 time better in the dark that these
pictures show. The plexi glows when you look at it at a lower angle.
I put led's in the controller ports and one in the modem. They don't show
up to good in the pictures though.

Thanks guys. Now I just need a blue swirl logo. Maybe I could do a window mod in exchange for one or I a motherboard with a metal fan and cooler thingies on it and a chip mod on it that I could trade. It came from a Dreamcast with a "J" in the sticker so maybe it's stock on those.
