NesterDC v6.0 users, please help:

Post by ytsejam »

Hey everyone, this is my first post. You all seem like you know your stuff, maybe you could help.

I've had NesterDC v6.0 for awhile now, but i'm just wondering why 2-player mode does not work for any of the NES games on my disc.

Can you even play 2 player on this version? I was sure that you could, but it doesn't work! There's nothing wrong with my controllor or the controller port. I know this because 2 player works on regular Dreamcast games.

If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

No idea. For me it works perfectly...

Are you using SEGA's standart controllers ?

I had problems with the extension cables a while back. Do you use any of those ?

Yeah, i do use extension cables. But i've only had them about half the time i've had the NesterDC. And I've never been able to play 2-player.

Hmmm, i'll try it again without the extensions.

Any other ideas anyone?

Try burning a new Nester disc?

Also, check the DCKB (it's really kind of messy at the moment, as it broke a few months ago and I haven't had a chance to figure out what went wrong with it). Start by checking out this link

I've burned several different discs, all with the same results.

So thereare people here who have v6.0, and 2-player works right?

At least it's possible, right?

Indeed. I used to use it quite often, and it worked just fine for me.

What games are you trying to play? Some NES 2-player games had funky controls (like Jeopardy, etc.)

BTW - Nice screen name. Dream Theater kicks ass.

Well, i've tried several, the ones that come to mind are Contra, Double Dragon, TMNT, Snake Rattle n' Roll, etc.

One thing for sure, do I have to have both controllers plugged in when I start up the Dreamcast? That might be part of my problem. I'm not sure that I've had both plugged in right from startup.

Ok, well at least i know it can work hopefully.

And curt, thanks man. Yeah DT is awesome. Coolest band ever.

Ha, I was wondering if there was anyone on here that listened to them. :D

Yes, with Nester 6.0, I believe you have to have your controllers plugged in before turning on the DC. Anything that's not plugged in when you turn the DC on will not be recognized.

I know that Double Dragon works fine on Nester 6.0, so it's not the funky NES 2-player layouts that are causing your issues.

Try following this tutorial to burn a disc with Nester 6.0 and Nester 7.1 on the same disc (you can also use the Dream Theater theme for DreamInducer if you like). Just copy your roms off of your existing disc and copy them onto your harddrive. Then, throw them into the appropriate folders at the appropriate time.

Also - have you tested these particular roms on your computer to make sure it's not a problem with your roms?

I certainly do. I haven't picked up their newest album yet, but my friend Matt says it kicks ass.

You have to plug both controllers in before booting up your Dreamcast, I remember that vividly.

Here i am wigging out about this, and it all I had to do was have both controllers plugged in when i start up the DC. Works fine now.
