Sega Genesis pad w/ USB

Post by Gasper »

I would like to know how to create this. I'm sure I don't have all the tools for this besides the USB and Controller. I've looked all over, but only found Snes, but the people say their the same to hook up, but It differest for me.

Note: I cut off the original plug for the controller.

I think you need an usb controller, you only keep the electronic part, you check where each button is hooked, and then you try to wire each button of the genesis pad in the right place.

The Gen controller has about 8-10 original wites, the USB has 4. I don't see how that could work unless I mix some wires...o.o.

I offically broke my Dreamcast, so any parts from it could help just tell me.

Also, I'm very new to this, so I believe in crossing wires....yeah

Also, I can't solder, don't have the tools/money for it. Anything else aroung the house can help..

It will never work without a microchip to convert the signals

paralell is easier, i did it for my snes pad too, you just need to solder a few wires, and install the right drivers

for USB youll need a microchip like matthemodder said, and programming skillz too, and very deep knowledge of genesis signaling, very difficult in case you didnt get that yet

Darn, I would use Paralell, but I don't have the right stuff for it. IE Male or female

I also don't have Soldering equipment.

I guess no Mugen with conftoller for a while then...lol. Think Gamestop has USB controlers used?

I said use the inner part of an usb controller wired to the buttons of a genesis controller, not cutting the cables and tying some together.
To be clear : you open the usb controller, you check where the up button connects, (you do the same for other buttons) then you discard the shell and buttons and you connect the up button from the genesis where it must go (you do the same for other buttons) and you reassemble all this with lot of duck tape since the electronic won't fit in the genesis game pad shell.

Oh you don't have soldering equipment ? Then forget about even thinking to modify anything.

Where you planning to just buy a genesis to usb adapter ?

No, I plan on buying a Sega USB controller. It's an official product.

good idea, if you dont have a soldering iron modding is pretty much not an option if you want something functional

for parallel port plugs, i find old printer cables to be a good source, if you feel like it

Wellm it's kinda screwed already because I took off the wires off the controler...sadly. Maybe i can go it with my Dreamcast controler?

Thats if I have any old printer cabls though. The one I have now, I need..

well you can do what i did and mod an xbox controller and use that then just use joytokey to use on your "multiple" emulators and such...I'm assuming you're a big emulator fan. You can use that to play FPS as well. very sweet program. It even has force feedback support if you get the right plug-ins for n64 and psx :)
If you've got an ass, I'll kick it!

sells some chips to solder into your controller and also comes with all required cables to play genesis, snes, nes, etc controllers with emulators.
Only $17; they were talking to the guy Dave Randolph, who made a nice tutorial to do this, on attack of the show last night.

Connecting "things" to the USB isn't that easy. You need a USB controller and also you need to code the firmware embedded in the controller.
