A couple spent ?4,000 on bringing back a starving dog that followed them for eight hours while on a holiday trek.
Nicola and Jonathan Cooksley were walking near an extinct volcano in Sao Miguel in the Azores when an abandoned puppy tagged along and would not leave.
He followed them through a lake and up a steep incline for hours. The pair, from Dorset, eventually became so fond of him that they paid to fly him home.

You're missing the point. It's not that they wanted a dog, but that they were touched by his persistence. The high fee was because is cost that much to include him on the flight back home.

i reckon it's near impossible to go to a dog pound and not come back with a sad faced mutt, i mean most of them just bark, but then you have the expert 'look at my sorry ass face' ones you just can't walk past and God help you if you have kids or a dog liking woman with you.
